Darn, I had hoped to see the ten best public schools list...I graduated from one that has long been on the list...wondered if it was still listed.

Is “Exceptional” a good thing or a bad thing? And since nearly all schools everywhere are public, what are the public schools “excepted” from? In other words, “exceptional” compared to what?

I think the intended meaning of “exceptional” here is “really good”, which is not what “exceptional” means.

There is no readier, more convenient source of empty sub-literate mumbo-jumbo verbiage than the education establishment talking about itself.

I’ve often wondered why it is, that schools seemed to provide a better education decades ago than they do now.

I’ve often wondered why it is, that nowadays, we spend more money, adjusted for inflation, on education than ever before. Yet we are getting inferior outcomes.

I’ve wondered about an older black man I saw on a TV program once, who said he got a better education in the Jim Crow South, than inner city kids get today in inner city schools.

And I wonder about the landmark study, “A Nation At Risk”, which was done in the early 1980s. The problems of our schools have been well known for decades, yet we seem not able to solve the problems of schools.

I wonder lots of things. Anyone else wonder about any of this, and what the solution is?

The short answer is for all who are able, to pull their kids out of public school. But what about the rest of the kids left behind?

Why were schools better "back then" than now? For one thing, there were much stronger nuclear families "back then" than now. Parents respected teachers a lot more and if the teacher said that a kid was misbehaving, the parent backed the teacher up with discipline at home. Students were expected to work, not clown around. There was a lot less social promotion, and a lot less pressure on teachers to pass kids who did not deserve to pass. Politicians kept their big non-expert noses out of education, which is a big problem today.

Untested libtard programs today are being forced on schools by decidedly outsider politicians. Being PC is more important than being educated. Fringe groups are calling the shots today, whining that standardized tests are "unfair", "culturally inappropriate", and a whole bunch of baloney excuses. You live here, you learn OUR language. We should not have to cater to a dozen languages, hire expensive bilingual teachers and interpreters for people who refuse to assimilate. You want to live like you did in Your Country? Go the hell back there.
