In Internet parlance, a troll is a malevolent mischief-maker, a commenter who says something politically incorrect, then sits back and enjoys the resulting furor sometimes even fanning the flames under multiple contradictory identities.
On FR, "troll" seems to mean any unfamiliar poster that disagrees with another poster.
I feel confident that while each FReeper may have his/her own mental image of an ugly hunchbacked troll springing from hiding and attacking someone, not many here really know how to discern a FR troll OR are willing to check one's posting history before slinging the noun as an epithet.

I guess the little child who declared that the Emperor had no clothes was a troll. We need many more of them.

To paraphrase the Billy Joel hit (and modify it some) “He didn’t start the fire”
Our entire government did: with their lies, deceit, treachery, self-aggrandizing, ideological oppression, and general all-round dishonesty.
Donald Trump is just the “kitchen lights being turned on.”
And all the cockroaches scatter.

The people are picking the nominee....not the party. Makes me livid when a twerp like Ryan says....well, I haven’t decided to support him. He’s the peoples choice!!

The best way to troll is to have a very logically worked out argument about something, and then make a statement that sounds extremely controversial (but can be backed up by the logically worked out argument), and wait a while, while the comment war rages.
Then you come out with the logically worked out argument.

Oh my, oh my!
Panties are in a wad all over the establishment.
If only republican voters had been smart enough to elect a skinny, half-black, dope-smoking, homosexual, American-hating, muslim communist
as their nominee the Post wouldn’t be so upset.

I think we should look at the original meaning of "troll." In Norse culture, a troll wasn't necessarily a Jotun (the big ugly thing that comes to mind when we hear "troll" today), but any being with supernatural/magical powers. A beautiful sorceress, a successful warlord, or a forest spirit could all "troll."
So maybe Trump is trolling.
