Iran’s leaders voiced outrage this week — and even threatened to shut down the Strait of Hormuz — following a Republican congressman’s proposed legislation seeking a stronger response to Tehran’s recent provocative actions against the U.S. Navy in the Persian Gulf, including the capture of ten Navy sailors in January.
A senior Revolutionary Guard commander threatened to shut down the entrance to the Persian Gulf, where one-third of the world’s oil exports passes each day, after learning about Virginia Rep. Randy Forbes’ bill.
The bill, coming in response to an incident earlier this year in which the Iranian National Guard captured ten Navy sailors at gunpoint, requires Congress to respond to Iran’s recent provocations and rethink sanctions should the incidents continue. …

I will raise you one closing of the straights with two aircraft carriers
1) A whole bunch of Arab countries who export oil would want to kick Iran's ass if they tried this.
2) If the Arabs didn't try to kick Iran's ass, then it's clear they would all deserve to be nuked.
Those of us in America’s oil states will be praying that they shut down the Middle East enemies’ exports of oil. That would save tens of thousands of jobs and businesses in our country. No doubt Obama would open the border to all the suffering Saudi sheiks, should that happen.
It looks like Iran is going to have to get Old Horseface to make them another one of his backroom “deal” specials.
Don’t worry, Obama will rush over there to kiss the ayatollah’s ass and smooth things over.
Blockade of Iran would be cheaper and cleaner than lobbing in a nuke but with same happy result.

This is just my opinion but I believe that aircraft carriers are nothing but an LST (large slow target) unless they are operating off third world countries. And even then I wonder.
Yes, in a way, but with extraordinary defensive capability and representing an awesome retaliation effect. There are few countries on Earth than can really challenge an aircraft carrier and they are well aware of what the repercussions would be....they are as safe as is the west coast.
