Coulter said that she tried to get many of the candidates interested in making illegal immigration a central issue in their campaign, but only Trump would do so. She said that before Trump announced his candidacy in June 2015, she got a call from Trumps people asking for a copy of her book on illegal immigration that was about to be released. Trumps people saw her pre-publication with Jorge Ramos of Univision. She sent Trumps people the book, and said that Trump read it. She was delighted when Trump talked about the wall, and illegal immigration and the violence it brings.
In my humble opinion, Cruz could have been out in front on this issue for all four years of his Senate term, and could have made it a much bigger part of his campaign, especially his Presidential announcement speech in March 2015. Cruz blew it big time and allowed Trump to own the issue and get the Republican nomination, and perhaps the Presidency.
I would have thought Ann was voting for Hillary.
Why?
Now we will see how many wonks were actually for Trump all along. /s
Can you spell “opportunist” Ann?
Because Ann has been off the reservation for awhile now.
The illegals burned their cause big time by their riots against Trump.
People’s reaction to that and voting for Trump as a result may also have hurt Cruz, I suspect.
Sorry, you’re wrong about Coulter — she was ALWAYS a Trump supporter from the beginning.
No one in their right mind believed him. I said from the beginning the any of the top candidates could have done exactly what Trump did. Either their donors wouldn't let them or they didn't endorse that policy which is why they didn't win.
With Ann immigrations was always the number one issue. She wrongly believed Romney was the best on immigration then she though Cristy would be. Those are called mistakes just like the Cruz zealots made.
Cristy will have a roll in his administration count on it.
Herman Cain said today that trump had called him before he decided to run and asked some great questions..
Trump resonates with American people. Everyone else, even Ted , pooh poohed his positions. The voters didn’t
“In my humble opinion, Cruz could have been out in front on this issue for all four years of his Senate term, and could have made it a much bigger part of his campaign, especially his Presidential announcement speech in March 2015.”
Here’s the story, it was a guy on Michael Medved last year, roughly August timeframe. As he was complaining about Trump, he said that the GOP leadership was convinced that they lost 2012 because of their low Hispanic numbers. So early last year, the GOPe got all of the potential candidates together (but not Trump, as he wasn’t on the radar then) and made them vow to keep it ‘toned down’ regarding immigration (of all forms, but particularly illegal) or else. Although not mentioned, it had to be clear what the “or else” was, which was money and support. THEY ALL AGREED, including Cruz, which is why Cruz’s words never much exceeded promising ‘secure borders’, whatever that means.
So there you have it - the most pressing issue to Republican voters in a generation, immigration, and our brilliant leaders made it off limits. Obviously this created a massive opening for a candidate that didn’t need their support, and so Trump swung at the hanging curveball and the rest was history.
Interesting.
Yea, I wish I had gotten the name of that person...he was being interviewed by a guest host.
