Icahn: Republicans don’t understand economics and it’s killing the country
cnbc ^ | 4/28/2016 | Everett Rosenfeld

"...Icahn, who Trump had previously suggested could serve as his Treasury secretary, warned that markets will have a "day of reckoning" without fiscal stimulus, and argued that the U.S. government "certainly could do more spending."

"The Republican Party that I used to be more sympathetic with — I'm right in the middle now, although as you know I'm for Trump — but what I would say is Congress is in this massive gridlock," he said, explaining that the Republican-controlled body is "obsessed with this deficit to a point that I think it's almost pathological..." Scariest thing I've seen this election.

Sure, I'd grudgingly accept deficit spending to immediately enforce the immigration laws. Other than that any budgets have to be aimed at cutting the debt.

You have got to be some sort of fool if you think you can keep the country floating on Printing Presses.

It’s true. We don’t. We don’t know how to sustain debts eternally without them eventually swallowing up the income of the country.

We are stupid that way.

I guess Icahn lost a s**tload on his AAPL and has to take it out on someone. #unimpressed.

Trump will up the spending. His two big positions open the way for it.

Yet they still understand much better than the Dems.

I'd grudgingly accept deficit spending to immediately enforce the immigration laws.

Yes! And we'd see immediate savings.

Icahn an admirer of Krugman and Trump an admirer of Icahn and talks of making Icahn the Treasury Secretary. Wonderful.

I think Icahn was talking about infrastructure, defense, stuff like that; not do nothing lefty employees. I also think he’s saying the economy is so bad that interest rate hikes will kill equities while providing no place to go.

Trump will up the spending. His two big positions open the way for it.

If that's true, his campaign now makes a lot more sense.

New York and New England THRIVE on government spending.

But that is exactly the opposite of the way we need to go to eventually fix this nation's financial problems. Giving a Junkie more drugs is not the answer.

Mostly when I hear "Spend More!" it's generally for more government programs which pretty much just enrich the Government Employee/Lobbyist power blocks.

Maybe he means something different, but nowadays I don't trust anyone saying we need to spend more.

Oboondoggle has been spending money as if he had actually earned any of it as opposed to being a parasite all his life.

But we’ve been ‘deficit spending’ for almost half a century and are where we are now.

With over $2.7 Trillion on imports each year, a 20% across the board import tariff balances the budget tomorrow.

And this is the guy Trump said he’s going to appoint as his chief negotiator?

This is why businessmen are not usually good at running economies. They love to try to control the economy through central planning, obsessed with playing with other people’s money.

Riiight, and what do you think that massive tax hike on all Americans will do to the overall economy? Expect the next Great Depression with businesses shuttering due to consumer spending collapsing, layoffs, massive welfare roll increases, foreclosures, bankruptcies...the reduction in other tax revenue and increase in welfare will probably more than cancel out the 20% tax.

“markets will have a “day of reckoning” without fiscal stimulus”

The markets will have a day of reckoning even without stimulus. That’s as inevitable as the sun rising in the east and setting in the west. All a stimulus will do is postpone the reckoning, make the eventual correction even more drastic, and line the pockets of brokers and those few investors smart enough to take their profits out before the crash.

And this feckless fool on the hill along with his rabid socialist friends Harry Reid, Nancy "Tight Face" Pelosi, Hillary "Canckles" Hildabeast, and Bernie the fool Sanders do? Pure unadulterated crap, and I thought Ichan was a capitalist. Take your billions, have a good steak, and STFU Carl, you are not making any friends on the right side of the isle.
