At first, Mexico's government did its best to ignore Donald Trump. Then it likened him to Adolf Hitler. Now it has appointed a new ambassador to come up with a better plan. Fed up with the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination labeling Mexico as a cradle of drug-runners, job poachers and rapists, the government is sending in respected diplomat Carlos Sada to lead a fightback. Mexico's new ambassador in Washington, Sada acknowledges his country has neglected its image across the border and aims to fix that with PR and media campaigns, and by lobbying prominent U.S. companies, lawmakers and civic leaders. "We need to do a more thorough job so that people understand what (Mexico) contributes," he said after he was sworn in at Mexico's Senate on Thursday. Sada's strategy includes underscoring Mexico's importance to the U.S. economy, although it centers on defending the rights of Mexican citizens in the United States and promoting Mexican culture. That focus has fed doubts over whether the government is trying hard enough to win over its most important audience: American voters. "It's vital to improve Mexico's image and protect our people, but that's not enough to change the hateful trend that Trump and other xenophobes before him have stirred up," said Gabriela Cuevas, an opposition lawmaker who chairs the Senate's foreign relations committee. "They don't understand the extent of the damage Trump has done," she said, urging the government to be more aggressive in mobilizing powerful U.S. interests against Trump's attacks. Claiming Mexico is "killing" the United States on trade, Trump has threatened to disrupt bilateral commerce worth some $500 billion a year, and promises to deport millions of undocumented migrants from Mexico and Central America.

Maybe if their citizens respected our citizens and our sovereignty and our laws we wouldn’t have such a negative opinion of them.
As it is Mexicans have NO respect for us, why should we have ANY for them?
Deport ALL illegal aliens!
Mexico should accept the image it’s earned. It has a light skinned bigoted ruling class that has systematically dumped its trash north of the border.
“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.” - Mahatma Gandhi
The truth is Mexico needs us way more than we need them.
The primary source of revenue for Mexico is not oil exports but remittances sent back by Mexicans working in the US to relatives in Mexico.
Now even Mexico is trying to reinvent itself. Hope they do better than Hillary all 50 times she has reinvented herself.
Why don’t they fix their image problems by fighting the cartels bringing drugs and indentured servants across the border. It’s not a ‘PR problem’, it’s a legal and ethical problem.
Here’s a suggestion:
Why don’t you simply stop being a cradle of drug-runners, job poachers and rapists? I bet that will go a long way toward changing your image.
That’s good.... putting a PR bandaid on it will fix everything!
PAY FOR THE WALL, ALREADY!!!
“We need to do a more thorough job so that people understand what (Mexico) contributes,”
Black tar heroin..? Molestation..? Fluorescent Jesus figurines..? Spray paint..? Oom-pah oom-pah music..?
Remember when they said NAFTA would lift the Mexican economy and the illegals would stop coming?
Don’t forget all the drunk drivers...
Until they stop aiding people crossing the border they have no room to talk.
Trump clearly has Mexico scared to their boots.
It also seems clear that Mexico was complacent with Washington DC power on their label equating Trump and Hitler.
“Sada acknowledges his country has neglected its image across the border and aims to fix that with PR and media campaigns, and by lobbying prominent U.S. companies, lawmakers and civic leaders.
Anything but addressing the actual causes, right?
“We need to do a more thorough job so that people understand what (Mexico) contributes,” he said after he was sworn in at Mexico’s Senate on Thursday.
Namely? Would that be cheap labor, crime, rampant drug smuggling, anything I’ve left out? Oh yeah, tacos.
Sada’s strategy includes underscoring Mexico’s importance to the U.S. economy, although it centers on defending the rights of Mexican citizens in the United States and promoting Mexican culture.
So the strategy is to distract from and thus not address what is driving people to emigrate from Mexico. And what part of Mexican culture is not fully appreciated? Burritos? Serapes? Modelo beer? Cool new diseases?
That focus has fed doubts over whether the government is trying hard enough to win over its most important audience: American voters. “It’s vital to improve Mexico’s image and protect our people, but that’s not enough to change the hateful trend that Trump and other xenophobes before him have stirred up,”
No it’s never enough it’s never enough it’s never enough it’s never enough it’s never enough it’s never enough it’s never enough it’s never enough our work is never done our work is never done our work is never done our work is never done our work is never done and please, ESAD while you’re at it. In a culturally appropriate way, of course.
They could try becoming a society whose primary export is not its own people.
I assume many Mexicans can live far better here in the US on a combination of off-the-books employment and a wide menu of public and private assistance.
Ah Ha!!
Show. Me. The Money!
Mexico thinks it will see a dip in revenue, so they gotta do something about it.
