Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) on Sunday slammed Republicans who have complained about an executive order he signed extending the right to vote in his state to convicted felons who have served their sentences.
"Well, I would tell the Republicans, 'Quit complaining and go out and earn these folks' right to vote for you. Go out and talk to them,' " he said in response to a question about people saying his order was an election-year ploy to help Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton.

Shouldn’t this change have been a bill that went theru the State Legislature?
How can the Governor make a change like this???
This needs a challenge immediately, IMO
Well...not ALL felons will vote DIM...or vote for that matter.
Well...not ALL felons will vote DIM...or vote for that matter.
Terry’s worried Hillary may not get to vote.
If voting rights are to be restored to felons that have paid their dues, so should second amendment rights.
Being a convicted felon shouldn't lose you your rights forever, at least for the first time. Once you're out, you still have the right to defend yourself.
With that said, if your rights are restored and you commit another felony, I think you ought to be gone forever.
And this is not new thinking on my part. I've felt this way for a long time.
Election laws vary from state to state. Here in NC felons can register and vote again after completing sentence/parole/probation and no longer under any legal custody.
So, in effect he granted pardons to all those people?
Not exactly. He did not absolve them of the conviction, but rather restored some of their rights.
Now, he did it carte-blanche, with no regard for case-by-case distinctions. He also did it is a very political manner, clearly intending to bolster democrat voting ranks.
I’d be pretty certain that he intends that they will vote democrat - whether they personally go to the polls or not. Such is the state of democrat politics, where cemeteries are sites for voter registration drives, after all.
>if a felon has turned his life around and been a good citizen he can apply to have his voting rights reinstated.
You mean EX-felon (aka Citizen). As we don’t have a caste system here, they are (should be) afforded the same (inalienable) Rights as any other Citizen.
>>The problem is the career criminals who should not be voting.
Correction: Career criminals should still be in jail. The voting issue thus being moot.
Yes but always assumed that was for bums, EBT queens and assorted nogoodnicks rather than criminals. After all, the criminal will simply relieve the dem operative of ALL his "walking around" money instead of just taking his share!
you are probably right, but the libs just think felons are misguided!
