McAuliffe tells Republicans to 'quit complaining' about felons voting
The Hill ^ | April 24, 2016 | Rebecca Savransky

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) on Sunday slammed Republicans who have complained about an executive order he signed extending the right to vote in his state to convicted felons who have served their sentences.

"Well, I would tell the Republicans, 'Quit complaining and go out and earn these folks' right to vote for you. Go out and talk to them,' " he said in response to a question about people saying his order was an election-year ploy to help Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton.

Va's prior system worked just fine, and would have permitted you to vote.

Restoring a felon’s right to vote should be done not automatically, as soon as he has completed his sentence, but carefully, on a case-by-case basis, after he has shown that he has really turned over a new leaf. The unfortunate truth is that many people who walk out of prison will be walking back in; recidivism rates are high. We have both testified before Congress and written about this problem. Governor McAuliffe may be happy as long as the ex-felons who can now vote just don’t walk back into prison before November. Having a waiting period, examining each ex-felon’s application for restoration of rights carefully and individually, and differentiating between violent and nonviolent crimes is exactly the system that Virginia had — at least until Friday’s order.

I wonder if this executive order (EO) can be challenged in court. It would be nice if a judge would issue a stay on the EO until the case is resolved.

As for voting, seriously, how many of the real criminal class even think about voting?

are you kidding? ever hear of the dems handing out "walking around $"? do you seriously think the dems aren't going to make an effort to shepherd these felons into voting booths in November to make sure they pull the lever for Hillary?

There is a process for felons to be re-infrangized should they chose to do so, but NO VIOLENT felon should ever be given the right to vote back.

Mother of a Murdered Child. Friend of mother whose 8 year old daughter was beaten, raped, strangled, drowned, whose killer has run out all state and federal appeals, 2 juries upheld the DP, and the COWARD RINO TN gov won’t sign the death warrant. 20 going on 21 years on TN Death Row. Appeals process didn’t even start until 4 years later after 2 trials.

Perhaps somewhat incredibly, I already possess that knowledge...knowledge which is readily obtainable.

There is a process in most states where civil rights can be restored. But actions (stupid or not) have consequences. If a “foolish mistake” cost you your vision or a limb you can repent all day long and you don’t get it back. I told my children when in high school: “you may not know this, but you are making possibly permanent life decisions now”.

In this case however, Clinton shill TerryMac is brazenly seeking new Democrats. Like losing an arm or leg... once folks follow the Serpent and vote their sacred liberty birthright away for promises of “red pottage”... you don’t get them back.

Did the legislature pass a law? Or is this one of those “Stroke of the pen, law of the land, kind of cool” deals?

He won in the last 15% of the vote. Cuccinelli was ahead almost all night.

They don’t vote. The Dems need people on the voter rolls so the precinct captains can vote for them. That’s why Dem areas always come in late.

This is so easy:

Start airing a commercial:

“Welcome to the Democrat Party. To RAPISTS, MURDERERS, ARMED ROBBERS, KIDNAPPERS, and every other FELON in Virginia. Welcome to the Party that puts YOUR interests FIRST. We only care about your vote, not your crime. The victims will just have to get over it. Bad guys need a break too.”

But leaving that aside, if a felon has turned his life around and been a good citizen he can apply to have his voting rights reinstated.

I would put in a poison pill for Democrats: have the legislation be that a former felon who has his voting rights restored ALSO gets his gun rights restored.

That would eliminate half of Congress if it were properly enforced.

I remember, so excited that Ken would be the next Gov. Then the results from Alexandria and Norfolk came in.
