McAuliffe tells Republicans to 'quit complaining' about felons voting

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) on Sunday slammed Republicans who have complained about an executive order he signed extending the right to vote in his state to convicted felons who have served their sentences.

"Well, I would tell the Republicans, 'Quit complaining and go out and earn these folks' right to vote for you. Go out and talk to them,' " he said in response to a question about people saying his order was an election-year ploy to help Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton.

With plea bargains most felons don’t serve anything near what they should for the misery and suffering they cause to others.

But leaving that aside, if a felon has turned his life around and been a good citizen he can apply to have his voting rights reinstated.

The problem is the career criminals who should not be voting.

So no new law is needed??

He can just write new law by ‘executive order’ (like Obama) ?

Try to keep calm.

I said nothing about YOUR right to vote.

I’m sure Terry is really worried about your right to vote also. Nothing cynical or opportunist about his action here, no sir.

I agree. This is another example of a problem that, if social conservatism had been adhered to, we would not be experiencing the problem at all.

"Well, I would tell the Republicans, 'Quit complaining and go out and pander to these folks' to vote for you. Go out and give them free shyt like I did,'"

Fixed it in the interest of accuracy.

Northern VA and Richmond city elected him - not over 90% of the rest of the state. We need to cut off North Virginia just like they did West Virginia.

If there is a North & South Carolina, a North & South Dakota - there needs to be a North Virginia - but leave the rest of the state as just Virginia.

North Virginia is a foreign country to the rest of us........that sucks on the tit of the Federal government.....

OMG! Once again, a solution without an issue. 47 states reinstate felons voting rights as soon as they complete their sentence. Kentucky, Tennessee and Wyoming will re-instate your voting rights after you complete your sentence and apply to the Governor for re-instatement.

We have much bigger issues in America folks. Focus!!!

Why didn’t the Governor restore ALL of their civil rights? Why not give them the right to have a firearm? I mean, if you can’t trust a man with a firearm, why would you trust him sitting on a jury, or voting?! Insane.

What do you think about my owning guns out here in rural podunk Pennsylvania ?

I don't see anything in my copy of the Constitution barring freed felons or even crazies from the right to keep and bear arms. Those who should not be armed should not be running around loose, and it sounds like you ain't them!

As for voting, seriously, how many of the real criminal class even think about voting? That would be an interesting statistic.

This does not only affect Virginia. The felons will be able to vote in the national election for the electoral college and they can switch Virginia to the Democrats, thereby making it that much harder for the Republican to win. This is not about local or statewide Virginia elections.

What wisdom might we obtain from felons?

How to best avoid becoming their victims, for one.

To both of you fascists ... if I WAS in one of those states ... why, in your words, should I not exercise my right to vote ?

I would say this. You do have the right to vote and own guns only after at least 3 years of your release you haven't had any other incidents.

We all do stupid things, I know I did when I was younger. I was lucky the judge let me off with a misdemeanor charge.

Northern VA and Richmond city elected him - not over 90% of the rest of the state.

That is what I call the Tyranny of Cities. Each County should get 1 electoral vote and each State should get 2, distributed as their Electoral College dictates. No more, no less.

The vast majority of counties in this Nation vote conservative, it is the cities where the residents are either transient in nature (no vested interest in the success of this Country) or isolated from the realities of the Nation that tend to vote Democrat. They are less inclined to be educated on concerns of State and the election process, leading to ignorant masses voting for those who dole out from the Countries largess.
