Donald Trump may be the only Republican presidential candidate who can realistically hit the magic 1,237 number for the majority of delegates, but according to a senior Republican National Committee official that does not mean he will become the GOP presidential nominee.
Curly Haugland, a longstanding RNC official and an unbound delegate from North Dakota who will be on the convention rules committee in July, told CNBC that attaining 1,237 during the primaries does not secure the nomination.
"Even if Trump reaches the magic number of 1,237 the media and RNC are touting, that does not mean Trump is automatically the nominee," Haugland said. "The votes earned during the primary process are only estimates and are not legal convention votes. The only official votes to nominate a candidate are those that are cast from the convention floor."

“What he says is technically correct. If there are 1273 delegates bound by state law to vote for Trump, then Trump will not become the nominee until they do vote for him. Of course, they will, but Trump is not the nominee until that happens.”
I think that is all that he is saying, too. The estimated delegate counts are probably fairly close, but the delegate vote on the floor is what makes it official.
Simmer down FRiend
You mean like Ted's already done multiple times?
That ‘s exactly what I’ve been thinking. These cockamamey caucus states would not be getting by with his outside of 90% Whiteyville.
“”Hilarious that Curlys from 94% white Bismark ND. Another prissy GOPer all snuggly wuggly up in his protected whiteyland..””
The thunder of disenfranchisement anywhere else would burn the state capitols to the ground. Driving all around the state 2-4 times and spending hours to cast blind votes for
Mr. Suckerbee, voting next week for Ms. Unknown voting for a uncommitted delegate Party Operative to vote for Candidate Goldman-Sachs would never be tolerated.
Gee it would be too bad if a team of crack election lawyers found a technical reason to pull Curly’s delegate credentials and throw Curly off the floor, wouldn’t it?
Yep.
I don’t give a fig who gets elected so long as they support the constitution and states rights.
They better think about it.
A good many voters will either sit out the election, as they refuse to be party to a criminal operation, and/or they will simply vote Dem/3rd party/write in.
Downline candidates will lose as well, unless they’re lucky.
Those who sit out the animating contest of freedom are cowards who deserve tier chains
Does it really matter if Haugland is correct or not?
EX: My intent to vote for “A” does not count until my vote for “A” is cast and counted.
Much to do about a private vote
curly haugland is making the repubs the Whigs. Go, curly, GO!!! That said...the guy seems like an ultimate loser.
The bottom line here is we Are going to a contested convention. then is on to the General election.
Personally I think we are well positioned to whip Hillary or Bernie like a rented mule.
Lets not knock ourselves out in the exhibition game
Bottom line is half the fools in this country want more of what is killing them and we need to show them the light and stop squabbling amongst ourselves
Do you think the ballot box is the only way to participate in the ‘animating contest of freedom’?
Criticizing someone for sitting out a rigged, corrupt political system is like criticizing someone for not trying to make a living by gambling at the casinos.
There are other, more effective ways to make money. Likewise, there are other, more effective ways to secure the blessings of liberty.
Brother yer gonna get yer hands dirty making pasta sausage or politics, get in there!
Otherwise nothing gets done!
Sitting out life is NOT an option!
Sitting out of life? Hardly.
I’m merely pointing out that voting is a sham. We’re not even to the general election yet and it’s quite clear the party bosses will do whatever they want to have it their way - REGARDLESS what the rank-and-file overwhelmingly want.
Further, I’m pointing out that the ballot box is not the only way to effect change. If fact voting is probably the least effective way.
If they pull the rug out from under The Donald and install a RINO (very likely), I stay home on election night.
Mikey Mikey... we finally got a champion in the senate and all the entrenched people hate him.
Then one day Donald says its because Teds just a jerk or whatever.
Truth is Ted was hated in the senate because he bucked them and that is what WE DEMANDED.
He has done what we sent him there to do and taken the slings and arrow and if any thinks he is going to submit to the Donald they are freeking crazy
Likewise if anyone thinks the Donald is going to quit, they are crazy, but it is time to think the long game now
