Thanks Patrice for a reminder of how much more superior the greenies believe they are than most everyday common sense folks. They, for the most part, are so full of it they can't see it. Lots of "zero emission" teslas and priuses in town here. Plugging in to charging stations where they get charged up magically somehow(I think someone said yesterday they get the power from unicorn farts). Maybe I should look at those charging stations at the local casinos to see if these climate just-us warriors are having to pay to charge up. That would be odd if they're not.

If living in the city were so green, it would be cheaper. Many of the costs in the city are a result of higher energy consumption.

We live in the sticks. Have been composting for the past
30 yrs.; so the soil in the garden is top notch. We eat
leftovers, even give some to the dog. Husband used to
weedeat the sides of our long driveway; finally quit that
when I told him I wanted it to look natural instead of
manicured. We use little electricity. Have more modern
energy saving appliances now. I was raised on dried beans
& potatoes; so am not picky. We don’t travel as much as we
used to; it cramps up my joints. Husband gardens a little
(organic). This is as green as I can manage. :o)

My siblings both moved to Seattle, after college. My brother is not so bad, but my sister went off the deep end. One boondoggle comes to mind. When they built a deck in their small, sloped back yard, they used some “sustainable” kind of crap material, instead of wood. Wouldn’t want to chop down a tree, a new one might be forced to grow back, in its place ! The backyard wasn’t very child friendly, but the deck provided a stable platform of several square feet, where her young boys could play, outdoors, relatively unsupervised.

OOPS ! Turns out the wasps LOVE the sustainable material, and soon the boys were forced back indoors. Several environmentally friendly solutions did not solve the problem, so the deck got torn down, replaced by . . .wood.

The contractor wasn’t too sad, however, as he pocketed an additional 10 grand ;)

oh, like my sister who spent about $5000 to build a chicken coop to house 16 chickens. That she’ll harvest for eggs only no slaughtering them for dinner.

ROI is about 10 years including initial costs and ongoing maintenance.

Next up for her is a $25,000 solar system with an ROI of 30 years.

"Which woman is living 'sustainably'?"

I think we all knew where this was going about half way through the first sentence. The undeniable fact is that the vast majority of eco oriented liberals crowd themselves into congested urban areas from which they meet, engage in "activism" and plot on how they can tell the rest of us how to live.

It's not relegated to resources, it is the bone deep difference between conservative and liberal ideology.

While conservatives work to preserve freedom and urge people towards independence and self determination, liberals are exactly the opposite.

Conservation is a worthy goal. If people ask you for advice, be sure to let them know what works best for you. However, if you feel the need to expound upon your practices and belittle your friends and loved ones who don’t recognize your superior wisdom, well, now, you’re just being an asshat.

If sustainable living means living a lifestyle my grandparents did 100 years ago ...sorry not for me. I also find it ironic that burning wood was essential to their sustainable lifestyle. Wood burning stoves not only belch green house gas, they also spew soot and carcinogens. Modern natural gas appliances are more efficient and pollute less.

A cute morality tale, but not really believable. There was zero reason for Patrice not to mention the things she did that corresponded to her clueless “friend’s” overpriced “sustainable” indulgence-buying. She could very easily make the points that she had us develop through inference.

Jane’s burning ambition is to get me to live as sustainable a life as she does.

Jane would be my ex-friend in a New York minute. I cannot tolerate people who "should" on me.

Patrice to Jane: Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

Patrice and family really seem to have their stuff together. I wish I had 10% of their energy and drive to be as self-sufficient as possible.

Smug.

South Park episode 2, season 10.

Well worth 20 minutes and they go after George Clooney too.

My husband was telling me they can get a full charge for under two dollars.

If that’s true, it must be heavily subsidized.

You can’t run a space heater for that and I would imagine one of those golf carts uses a whole lot more power.
