There are a lot of liberal NY Republicans lining up for Trump in the face of Ted Cruz as the alternative.

But keep in mind that the liberal ‘silk stocking’ Wall Street Manhattan Republicans voted for John Kasich and if they could really have their way, it would be him.

But going into the convention many seem a bit pragmatic like King.

Peter King is generally pro gun control (he did vote against suing gun manufacturers), pro amnesty and overall fairly liberal. His stance on taxes is decent but not fantastic.

His big claim to fame is his rightward stance on National Security. That is pretty much it.

He is about the best one can hope for from a NY/NYC metro area Republican. In other words he stinks but a little bit less than his democrat counterpart.

He is a loudmouth and fairly obnoxious. living within the NYC media market, I have to suffer him on tv and radio a lot.

His hatred of Cruz should be a badge of honor for the Senator. Having Peter King like you generally says you are pretty squishy on Conservative issues.

I don’t know if his estimate of Trump is accurate or not (although I tend to think so since Mr. Trump is definitely not a Conservative ideologue) but King and others like him seem to think they could sway Mr Trump to their positions on a number of issues. That is alarming.

Cruz is so disliked by those that work with him that I doubt he could be an effective leader. He does a lot of grandstanding but has been mostly ineffective.

Also, if you think shutting the government down is truly a good idea, how about making sure you have a little support for it first? He never did that. He was ineffective in getting support. In fact, it turned out to be a political win for Obama.

Even some of them "liberal Republicans" know that the WH is the goal and that Hillary would be a real disaster after 8 years of Obama. Some of the "staunch Conservatives" seem OK with letting Hillary in because they opted to stick with their "principles" instead of going for the win. I can't wait for trump to go after Hillary when he has nothing left to do but take her down - he'll talk in our language instead of lecturing us like a PHD professor.

A great many on FreeRepublic seem to have been overcome with the idea if you run candidates as liberal as Hillary and the Dems, then you can beat them.

What do you have after it is over? A super liberal person in government.

AND, if there is any doubt about the FR official policy ...

Cruz is underperforming. He has no shot at 1237. He can’t WIN the nomination. The only thing he can accomplish at this point is destroy the party and therefore allow Hillary to win and to destroy the nation.

Cruz is no conservative. He does not put America first. If he did, he would concede and save the nation a whole lot of turmoil. We need to stop the destruction and unite against Hillary.

A backhanded, if factually accurate, compliment. After Cruz’s email yesterday where he claimed he was on the verge of claiming the Republican nomination, after being mathematically eliminated, I can only assume he’s had a break with reality
