Donald J. Trump said Thursday that transgender people should be allowed to use whatever bathroom they feel most comfortable with including at Trump Tower in New York.
Dipping into a contentious issue by taking a stand many Republicans oppose, Mr. Trump told a town-hall-style event, hosted by NBCs Today show at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan, that when people go to the restroom, they should use the bathroom they feel is appropriate.
Mr. Trump, the Republican presidential front-runner, was responding to a question about a bill that North Carolinas governor signed into law last month that bars individuals in the state from using public bathrooms that dont correspond to their biological sex the one listed on their birth certificate. Since then, there has been a backlash from businesses and celebrities opposed to the states action. And transgender issues have pitted social conservatives against business interests that traditionally have been part of the Republican coalition in the South and elsewhere.
North Carolina did something it was very strong and theyre paying a big price, Mr. Trump said. And theres a lot of problems. And I heard one of the best answers I heard was from a commentator yesterday saying, leave it the way it is, right now.
He added that before the law passed, there had been very few problems but now North Carolina is experiencing an exodus of businesses and strife from people on both sides of the issue.
You leave it the way it is, he said. There have been very few complaints the way it is.
North Carolinas law, which also removed anti-discrimination protections for L.G.B.T. people, and the backlash to it, is now at the heart of the states hotly contested governors race.

And wicked women are wicked but they get to go in the ladies’ room right now. How about banning wicked women?
Tranny bathrooms are a state and local issue. The Federale Gov’t has nothing to do with this garbage. Its a gotcha issue, a trap for Trump. A tar baby. So Trump blew them off by essentially saying “whatever”.
Trump gave the media the answer that will keep the loony toon gays and trannies off his back. I would have done the same.
These bathrooms were beautiful and luxurious. All the stalls had walls made with 1-1/2” thick marble. Even the claw-foot bathtubs were enclosed. And I always took a bubble bath.
So, just to be clear. Are you in support of transgendered men sharing bathrooms, showers, locker rooms with woman?
I'm getting this sense reading your posts.
And he correctly pointed out the economic punishment that is going on for something that no one has yet to demomstrate was a epidemic problem. Hence the leave it as it is remark. If a perv of ANY gender or preference is acting out in a bathroom and harming someone we already deal with that.
Liberals love more laws for imagined crises.
Yep. So we should go ahead and make it legal and easier to do.... I mean, my forefathers couldn’t stop abortion, so we legalized it. We can’t stop pot, so we are legalizing it too. So since we can’t stop voyeurism or get trans people to a psychologist, we should just give up on that as well.
Right. Evil wins when good men do nothing.
Obviously, the NYT thinks this is worthy of being picked up and broadcast. I don’t care what the phuque anyone thinks about rooms set aside for piddling.
“Claiming to be transgender.” How can you claim to be transgender? Either you is or you ain’t.
A guy or gal who’s had a sex change should use the bathroom they’re comfortable with. I’m a man, I shouldn’t be using a woman’s bathroom, sorry. Bruce Jenner should use the man’s room.
Making Christian businesses bake cakes is not the same principle. That is essentially forced labor, which is slavery. Private business owners have the right to decide when, how, and for whom they will work.
If you can find me in the Constitution where it says I have the right to keep some mentally ill woman who thinks she’s a man from pooping in the bathroom stall next to mine, I’ll change my mind.
My rights end where the next person’s begin, and the real rights here are the rights of the person who owns the bathroom. They should get to decide, and gov’t should stay out of it.
I’m disappointed with Trump on this. It’s such an easy ball to hit.
Trump is weak on the gay issue, worried about business more than about morality of it.....
“Donald Trump Says Transgender People Should Use the Bathroom They Want”
Says it all
Personally, I wish he just said, “That’s a state law. Presidents’ do not deal with state laws,” and left it at that. I’m sure he would have been badgered to give his opinion, but he could have evaded it by saying that he didn’t want to interfere in or influence North Carolina’s controversial legislation one way or the other, because it is an internal state issue and likely to come up before the courts.
That's dumb because it was already legal insomuch that there were no laws on the books about keeping men in drag out of the women's restroom. Best case scenario, anyway, is that you would funnel all of the perverts out of the women's restroom, and straight into the men's restroom with your son.
It's the most infantile hill to die on when there are more important issues.
You mean like when he backtracked today on immigration and signaled openness to a path to citizenship?
So are Muzzies, but there are more important hills to die on than funneling perverts from the women's restroom into the boy's restroom.
This is what Trump should have said but the media critter followed up with a question about what the tranny bathroom policy is at Trump Tower. All to get a gothcha question over on The Donald.
I'd hardly say I needed it.
I agree. It is an issue. How can the increasing legitimization of perversion not be an issue? The pseudo-conservatives of the GAP(Go Along Party)told us for years that sodomite “marriage” was a “non-issue” and to “get over it”. Now they’re spouting the same lame drivel about this issue. How far a slide down the slippery slope do they want us to accept?
Then why pander to them? Unless, of course, you're speaking from the heart.
