Transgender people should be able to use whatever bathroom they want, Donald Trump said Thursday.
"Oh, I had a feeling that question was going to come up, I will tell you. North Carolina did something that was very strong. And they're paying a big price. There's a lot of problems," the Republican presidential candidate said during a town hall event on NBC's "Today."
Referring to comments from an unnamed commentator who on Wednesday said North Carolina should "leave it the way it is right now," Trump said he agreed.
"Leave it the way it is. North Carolina, what they're going through with all the business that's leaving, all of the strife -- and this is on both sides. Leave it the way it is," he said, referring to companies that have canceled plans to move or expand businesses in the state as a result of the law, which bans transgender individuals from using a bathroom that does not match their gender at birth.
"There have been very few complaints the way it is. People go. They use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate," Trump said. "There has been so little trouble. And the problem with what happened in North Carolina is the strife and the economic -- I mean, the economic punishment that they're taking."
Matt Lauer then asked whether Trump has any transgender people working for his company.
"I really don't know. I probably do. I really don't know," Trump said, answering that he would allow, say, transgender celebrity Caitlyn Jenner to use whatever bathroom she wanted at Trump Tower.

Au contraire, mon ami.
(A little French lingo there to show my affection for little froggies.)
Let this miserable mistake spend all his time working on the toilet assignments. His mind is in the toilet. Flush!
“stating it’s OK for sex offenders to use whatever “potty” they choose!”
Trump did not say that sex offenders should be able to “potty” wherever they choose.
The concept of sex offenders was not brought up, because, by definition, only certain unhinged, venomous, psycho Trump haters would maintain that Trump defends sex offenders.
I agree. Also, if a trans. thinks he is a woman—then he should go to the bathroom the way a woman does, not standing. I woman should stand up when she pees just like a man this is the way they are comfortable.
No, that’s not what he said.....
States should address these issues.
Where in the Constitution does it mention "restroom rights of the individual"?
“...Trump did not say let men use women’s restrooms. He said transgendered....”
****************************************************************************
So, is TRUMP saying a man who says he thinks he is a woman IS A WOMAN?
So, at a children’s recreation basketball game held in an elementary school DOES TRUMP BELIEVE that said men (women) should go into the elementary school’s GIRLS REST ROOM?
That’s disappointing.
As a woman, I frequently encounter young boys that are brought into the ladies room by their mothers, who obviously don’t feel they can trust them to go to the men’s room by themselves.
That I understand and don’t mind. But once I was in a stall with a bad latch. Suddenly the door opened and I saw a boy about 10 or 11 standing there, gawking at me, who I assume was brought in there by his mother. Really, mom? You don’t trust an 11-year-old to go on his own?
Nice attempt at deflection. Care to try to address the subject matter of the post?
[One answer: State issue. Each state decides their bathroom policy, its not a federal issue.]
Yeah, but Trump took it as an opportunity to attack North Carolina (and cheerlead corporations using their power to force their will on the people of North Carolina) for daring to defend women’s right to privacy instead.
I find this statement by Mr Trump very disturbing.....
“There have been very few complaints the way it is. People go. They use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate,” Trump said. “There has been so little trouble. And the problem with what happened in North Carolina is the strife and the economic — I mean, the economic punishment that they’re taking.”
So now whenever there is an economic price to pay, we should surrender what we believe is right ????? Is everything going to be decided by $$$$$$ issues ??
Here is what Trump said:
“There have been very few complaints the way it is. People go. They use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate,” Trump said.
No mention of “perverts”. Nothing about men and little girls...
I heard him say that new laws aren't necessary. There have been very few problems the way it is. People use the bathroom they feel is appropriate. So little trouble. The new NC is causing strife, economic problems etc. The question was specific to his view on the NC law. He would allow "Caitlin" Jenner to use whatever bathroom in his building when asked the rhetorical question. Guess the headlines and bad press if he banned Jenner from his bathrooms?
Personally I agree that we shouldn't pass laws to make it mandatory for all public businesses and government offices to have non gender specific bathrooms. Also I don't know how we can police which gender parts a person has before they go into a public bathroom.
Until now, passing these "anti-discimination" Laws will embolden them.
I say protect a woman’s privacy first and foremost.
To give by court order a transgender male permission to use a woman’s restroom and locker room is to deny a woman’s right to privacy.
[”I heard...Trump open to raising taxes”
I personally heard him this AM saying he was open to raising taxes on the RICH. If you heard different, please post a quote.
Leni ]
So Freepers now support raising taxes on “the rich” (which to the left means anyone who actually works)? How very PROGRESSIVE of them! Karl Marx would approve.
What was the perfect answer? Ban transgender people from pubic bathrooms? Pass a nationwide law that all public facilities must include a gender neutral option? He said leave it as it is. People use the bathroom they feel appropriate - which using logic means if it's not appropriate they will be reported just as they are now.
Trump voters dont care about any of that. They arent social warriors. Its economics they care about. THAT is the basis behind the Trump surge.
The Romney Strategy
Good questions.
And they made me think of a few more:
Trump may or may not reach the required number of delegates to be the republican nominee before the convention. But why the demands that Cruz just step aside and hand him the nomination before that happens? (Demands that include vitriolic attacks against Cruz and his supporters who are both then expected to give their unstinting support to Trump’s candidacy.)
I can’t help wondering how many Trump supporters who have been the most vicious against Cruz and his supporters actually refused to vote for McCain and/or Romney. Because if there are any, it would be very interesting to hear why they think they have the right to attack folks who have concerns about Trump’s conservatism and character.
The best thing Trump has going for him is the support he’s getting from Sessions and Palin and Carson.
Is everything going to be decided by gov’t? According to the 2010 census, there are 21,833 transgendered people in this country, a nation of well over 320 million. That is so minuscule it’s a non-issue. Yet we already have govts jumping in to legislate about .00007 of the population. Where does it end?
The gov’t should stay out of it and let people who own buildings decide the bathroom configuration. If others don’t like the configuration, they can go elsewhere.
I thought conservatives wanted to get the gov’t out of their day to day lives.
