Sen. Ted Cruz for the first time said he believes the Republican Party is headed to a contested convention.
Cruz had previously called a contested convention likely and that it seemed the party was heading in that direction. But after a disappointing third-place loss in New York Tuesday, the Texas Republican is no longer saying he plans to beat front-runner Donald Trump at the ballot box.
"We are headed to a contested convention, Cruz said in an interview with Philadelphia talk-radio personality Chris Stigall this morning. At this point, nobody is getting 1,237. Donald is going to talk all the time about other folks not getting to 1,237; hes not getting there either. None of us are getting to 1,237.
And hes right about one thing. After the New York primary, it is now mathematically impossible for Cruz to clinch the Republican nomination using bound or pledged delegates before the July convention in Cleveland.

At first I was surprised by these comments by Mr. Cruz.
But when you consider he had no problem giving obama fast track authority to negotiate away what’s left of our sovereignty via TPP, his flip-flops on H1B’s, and sleeping with a CFR globalist, maybe it’s no wonder Cruz would put the interests of the country a distant second to his own.
For those who cannot accept to see Cruz’s true colors, counselors are standing by at: 1-800-CRUZLIM
So? There are millions of independents in NY that could not vote in the primary. Plus hundreds of thousands of Bernie voters who would never vote for Hillary.
What? You mean Ted Cruz lost in New York?
Shocking? Whoda thunk it?

Sad how all of the replies critical to this post have been removed.
Good luck with this clown Trump, Jim. Don’t guess I’ll be back.
The idiot think he’s going to get the nomination while ignoring why Kasich is still supported by the eGOP.
The winner of a contested convention will be either Bush or Romney or somebody exactly like them
Something is seriously wrong with Ted. I used to be a big fan but no way anymore with this garbage, he’s done as far as getting the nomination outright.
It’s pretty obvious for him to stay in he is now helping the GOPe try to get the candidate they want, screw the American people.
Maybe all those years in government, Ted is really a statist and thinks he is entitled.

Hillarys vote was twice that of Donalds. Bernie got 200,000 more votes than Donald. In the general. Write NY off at the start.
“I love how everyone talks about Cruz, but nobody ever mentions that Kasich should drop.”
Kasich should drop out as well.
Ted’s hearing voices a-g-a-i-n. Still telling him he’ll win on a second ballot....AFTER he knocks out Trump.
Fat chance that’s ever gonna happen.
Ted’s staying around now for one reason-—to increase his earning power. Figures the more times his name and picture are in the news, the more earning power he’ll have.
And Trump got 4 times as many as Romney In 12
But he does get to keep some lovely parting gifts!
Now that he has been mathematically eliminated, it is his only option. He should drop out and unite the party.
As opposed to what? Cruz’s third place finish?
The Establishment doesnt want either man. Cruz is a tackler, not a running back. Watch them sit on their hands this fall, just as they did when Goldwater ran.
Sure it's an election! Heck, that's the the Soviet Union ran their elections that way the whole time. It was in the "rules", dontcha know?
Am I exaggerating a bit comparing these GOP caucuses to the old Soviet method? Yes, but maybe not by much.
I hope he spends the rest of his life getting punched in the face by random strangers passing him on the street.
