Sen. Ted Cruz for the first time said he believes the Republican Party is headed to a contested convention.
Cruz had previously called a contested convention likely and that it seemed the party was heading in that direction. But after a disappointing third-place loss in New York Tuesday, the Texas Republican is no longer saying he plans to beat front-runner Donald Trump at the ballot box.
"We are headed to a contested convention, Cruz said in an interview with Philadelphia talk-radio personality Chris Stigall this morning. At this point, nobody is getting 1,237. Donald is going to talk all the time about other folks not getting to 1,237; hes not getting there either. None of us are getting to 1,237.
And hes right about one thing. After the New York primary, it is now mathematically impossible for Cruz to clinch the Republican nomination using bound or pledged delegates before the July convention in Cleveland.

Yes, I do, but it isn’t the God of heaven - it’s the god of this world.
Actually, you are 100% wrong. Your explanation is 100% wrong, and Cruz is the one splitting the party. Get your factrs straight.
There was a time when I wanted Cruz as VP, but that ship has sailed. He has shown his true colors, and they aren’t pretty. He’s a liar, fake and fraud, and not to be trusted. He needs to stay as far away from the WH as possible - he’s bad for this country.
Not really, but it’s the only party we have right now.
I know what Jim asked, and I respect where he is coming from, because I can understand why he asked that.
Ted Cruz is behaving in a way that makes doing that difficult for me to conceive at this time.
Should Cruz change course to an honorable one, I will reassess, but at this time, he’s making me mighty angry.
It is just a metaphor, but I don’t expect you to understand that. Cruz and his minions are splitting the party - in other words - the GOPE. You do realize that Cruz is doing thier bidding, don’t you? If not, then buy a clue.
I’ve seen his type in high school. Kids who are so unpopular and get used by the jocks - it’s a sad thing to watch, and Cruz is so hungry for people to like him that he doesn’t realize he is being used.
Sounds to me like you are looking for chaos, and chaos is what you will get.
Hope you enjoy.
After what Cruz has pulled, he wouldn’t get enough votes to hurt Trump on a 3rd party run. You people are delusional.
We don’t want him. Send him back toCanada
Thanks, for mentioning this. We watched a documentary on Lincoln's election recently; the process didn't sound pretty. I had forgotten about it until you mentioned it.
I started with Cruz, donating and ended up quitting him in February for Trump. I would still vote for him as a 2nd choice. It has been very revealing the past few weeks.
I note that Hillary received almost three times the number of votes that Trump did in NY.
How many more multiples of votes did Hillary get over Ted?
I’ll answer your metaphor with a cliche: “it takes two to tango”.
You cannot split a party unless BOTH halves of the party feel there are irreconcilable differences. If only one side digs its heels in, the other will give way and the party will shift. If BOTH sides dig their heels in, only then can you get a split.
“You people are delusional.”

Do you really think that Cruz running as a Conservative alternative in the general election could not siphon away 15-20% of GOP support from Trump? Perot got 19% Personally, I would guess more for Cruz, but I’m “delusional”!
Robbie we must be talking about something other than what happened in Wyoming. Cruz spent only a minimal amount also and put little effort into it. It wasn't Ted's brilliant “ground game”. Ted didn't win anything; he was just the recipient of the party bosses benevolence in their effort to stop Trump. The voters had no input; anyone with any type of moral compass can not deny that this is repugnant.
The sad thing is that Ted already has no mathematical possibility of winning a majority of delegates before the convention. Even though this wasn't even really his doing, it will be remembered as more underhanded and dishonorable behavior. The next time Ted runs for president, he will make the Jebster look like a superstar.
I realize a few Cruzers are fairly delusional but without some kind of miracle happening for the GOPE, Trump's going to reach well over 1237. There will be no second ballot. this is over.
As to winning New York, no pollster predicted Cruz would barely break 14%. They all had him at 20%. The Cruz campaign told supporters he would get 25%, and win some delegates.
Boo hoo, enjoy your watching, although it's likely you're going to need a safe space to retreat to like all the colleges seem to require these days. We'll try to accomodate you and promise not to make fun as your silly projections are destroyed one by one.
[ Ted Cruz Now Says ‘We Are Headed to a Contested Convention’ ]
Correct. He’s been the GOP Establishment boy for some time now.
He might as well join Team Hillary. GOPe. No difference.
