A high school in Smithfield, NC now offers another lane of study for some students: Members of the Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program are able to study their aim on campus.
The JROTC built a 1,200-square-foot, six-lane, indoor shooting range at the Smithfield-Selma High School and students began using the facility last week. The $10,000 in costs for the range was donated by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

People in NC will remember Smithfield of being home to the infamous “The KKK Rides Again” billboard.
Wow, now all the self-righteous actors and singers will REALLY want to stay out of NC.
There was one in my high school and I grew up in New Jersey. Not for ROTC, but any student who wanted to learn how to shoot,
I graduated in 69 from high school in El Paso, and while I was there our ROTC cadets drilled with M1 Garands, and we had a rifle team. Other high schools had them too.
Air guns, but still a positive.
This should be mandatory for all high schools.
My daughter is into clay pigeon sports. My extended family lives in Minnesota, and the clay sports are going gang-busters up there - and in the schools! Something like 500+ schools now have shooting teams. Over 7,000 shotgun shooters were at the state meet.
Much of it was paid for by a three year grant by Cabbelas. The Minnesota model is being picked up by other states too.

Yes! The American Way.
We’re going to need something to counter all the Beheading Schools opening up in Germany.
Will they be able to shoot guns made out of pop tarts?
Yesterday was the grand opening of the Foothills Shooting Range of Cleveland County. 80 acres west of Charlotte, NC with paved parking, concessions, restrooms, 250 yard rifle range, 3 pistol ranges, 2 trap and skeet, and an archery range. First Class in every way. Hundreds of people attended the opening ceremonies including school children.
It’s still America here in the South despite the Leftist politicians in the cities and the cowardly corporations making threats of economic coercion if we don’t knuckle-under.
We still have them in Connecticut. A surprise, I know.
50 years ago, almost every school in New England had practice ranges in the basement of the school, for .22s.
It was a boys only activity. I bothered me so, that my brother went and girls were not included. I was jealous. He brought his .22 Stevens to school, carrying it down the city street, to put in the coat room until practice.
Today, there would be SWAT teams.
Now if we can limit the number of liberals that are moving down here into Brunswick County (NC) to retire.
That’s more good news.
This is great! The local gunclubs must be involved in some way. Kudos.
Heh. I’m looking for real estate in Ashe county.
