HAVANA Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro delivered a valedictory speech Tuesday to the Communist Party that he put in power a half-century ago, telling party members he will soon die and exhorting them to help his ideas survive.
Ill be 90 years old soon, Castro said in his most extensive public appearance in years. Soon Ill be like all the others. The time will come for all of us, but the ideas of the Cuban Communists will remain as proof on this planet that if they are worked at with fervor and dignity, they can produce the material and cultural goods that human beings need, and we need to fight without a truce to obtain them.
Castro spoke as the government announced that his brother Raul will retain the Cuban Communist Partys highest post alongside his hardline second-in-command. That announcement and Fidel Castros speech together delivered a resounding message that the islands revolutionary generation will remain in control even as its members age and die, relations with the U.S. are normalized, and popular dissatisfaction grows over the countrys economic performance.
Fifty-five years after Fidel Castro declared that Cubas revolution was socialist and began installing a single-party system and centrally planned economy, the Cuban government is battling a deep crisis of credibility.
With no memory of the revolutions heady first decades, younger Cubans complain bitterly about low state salaries of about $25 a month that leave them struggling to afford food and other staple goods. Cubas creaky state-run media and cultural institutions compete with flashy foreign programming shared online and on memory drives passed hand-to-hand. Emigration to the United States and other countries has soared to one of its highest points since the revolution.

Thanks, I needed the laugh.
Can’t wait for that butcher, Castro, to be judged for his heinous acts - not the least of which is damned near starting WW3 by launching an anti-aircraft rocket at a US surveillance plane during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Buh-bye, you old POS!
Some folks in the heraafter waiting to have a few words with you, Fidel.
What a great loss that will be to our world.
Joe, the Georgian (Al Stewart)
Now I've got my payment
For the service that I gave;
They've given me my ticket
To this place beyond the grave.
I suppose it's kind of funny,
I suppose it's kind of sad,
Thinking back on all the times we had.
But it's kind of hot and smoky
In this ante-room to Hell,
And I won't make up a story
'Cause you know the truth so well.
It's much too late to worry
That we never had a chance,
And, when Joe the Georgian gets here,
We will dance, dance, dance.
When Joe the Georgian gets here,
We will dance.
We all set off together
On this sorry Ship of State.
When the Captain took the fever,
We were hijacked by the Mate;
And he steered us through the shadows,
Upon an angry tide,
And cast us one by one over the side.;
But it's kind of hot and smoky
In this ante-room to Hell,
And I won't make up a story
'Cause you know the truth so well.
It's much too late to worry
That we never had a chance,
And, when Joe the Georgian gets here,
We will dance, dance, dance.
When Joe the Georgian gets here,
We will dance.
There's Kameniev, Zinoviev,
Bukharin, and the rest;
We're sharpening our pitchforks
And we're heating up the ends.
We've got a few surprises
For the Mate when he appears;
I hope he likes the next few million years.
And it's kind of hot and smoky
In this anteroom to Hell,
And I won't make up a story
'Cause you know the truth so well.
It's much too late to worry
That we never had a chance,
And, when Joe the Georgian gets here,
We will dance, dance, dance.
When Joe the Georgian gets here,
We will dance.
“I’ll only say Fidel is long overdue and 0bama will be saddened.”
So sad he will have the US fly our flags at half staff!
Never heard that one. Cool lyrics.
Way overdue, Fidel, way overdue.
Why didn’t he just do it?
How many people has this subhuman piece of cr** murdered or tortured or imprisoned?
I heard the cheers from here.
Not soon enough. He should have died at about the same time as Che died and in about the same manner.
Will Bernie lose as his followers go into mourning?
I hope he doesn’t die while Obama is still in office. I can just imagine what Obama will require the US to do to honor Fidel.
Obama will be saddened, as will Democrats everywhere.
From your lips to God’s ears! That’s the only way I’ll go back there to visit the land of my birth.
Rapido p#ndejo!
Quite the quote there.
Criswell of Criswell Predicts said Fidel Castro would be murdered around 1973 by a woman.

Someone please explain to me why atheists have ideals of any kind.
