HAVANA Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro delivered a valedictory speech Tuesday to the Communist Party that he put in power a half-century ago, telling party members he will soon die and exhorting them to help his ideas survive.
Ill be 90 years old soon, Castro said in his most extensive public appearance in years. Soon Ill be like all the others. The time will come for all of us, but the ideas of the Cuban Communists will remain as proof on this planet that if they are worked at with fervor and dignity, they can produce the material and cultural goods that human beings need, and we need to fight without a truce to obtain them.
Castro spoke as the government announced that his brother Raul will retain the Cuban Communist Partys highest post alongside his hardline second-in-command. That announcement and Fidel Castros speech together delivered a resounding message that the islands revolutionary generation will remain in control even as its members age and die, relations with the U.S. are normalized, and popular dissatisfaction grows over the countrys economic performance.
Fifty-five years after Fidel Castro declared that Cubas revolution was socialist and began installing a single-party system and centrally planned economy, the Cuban government is battling a deep crisis of credibility.
With no memory of the revolutions heady first decades, younger Cubans complain bitterly about low state salaries of about $25 a month that leave them struggling to afford food and other staple goods. Cubas creaky state-run media and cultural institutions compete with flashy foreign programming shared online and on memory drives passed hand-to-hand. Emigration to the United States and other countries has soared to one of its highest points since the revolution.

Tomorrow, April 20th, is Hitler’s birthday
Burn in hell, commie!
Enjoy your eternity in outer darkness.
Enough talk! Let’s see some action!....................
I GUARANTEE, that SOB will attend his funeral.
There is a special place in Heck just for you, fidel.
.
We imprisoned, tortured, and murdered those who longed for freedom, but we did it with dignity! /s
Bump!
I thought that Fidel Castro recently admitted that Communism as a way of governing was an abject failure. Why does he want to continue a proven policy of failure? This took place in September 2010; he said that the Cuban economic model is a failure.
Except for those Cubans who are happy making $25/month.
I’ve had a particular interest in seeing Castro dead since the Missile Crisis. Hurry up, dammit!
The media was so pro Castro that I, a 9 year old, wanted to take my .22 rifle and join him.
There was this organization of nuts who claimed he was a Communist but they were laughed at.
So sad. 55 years of dictatorship. No free elections. So many lives ruined. Generations impacted. I hope he rots in hell.

Yep, remember when the fighting ended and word came out he was a socialist and then later a communist. Surprise, Surprise...
With no memory of the revolutions heady first decades, younger Cubans complain bitterly about low state salaries of about $25 a month that leave them struggling to afford food and other staple goods.
As I said on an earlier thread, Cuba’s leaders need an enemy only 90 miles away. It’s the same need that North Korea has with the South and America. You’ve got to have enemies to keep the rank and file angry, ready to fight and easy to be worked up into a frenzy.
Very sad indeed. Tens of thousands directly and indirectly murdered and many times that imprisoned. He deserves to rot in hell.
Fidel: I’m at Death’s Door!
Cubans: We’re all praying they pull you through.
It may be worth a trip there to piss on his grave. I hope his brother has a revolution on his hands
100000% odds Obama will be there.
