United States 'doesn't consider the Golan a part of Israel'

The United States does not consider the Golan Heights to be a part of Israel, State Department spokesperson John Kirby stressed on Monday, a day after Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu vowed the Golan Heights "will forever remain under Israeli sovereignty."

"The U.S. position on the issue is unchanged," Kirby told reporters during a daily briefing at the State Department in Washington, according to Haaretz.

"This position was maintained by both Democratic and Republican administrations. Those territories are not part of Israel and the status of those territories should be determined through negotiations. The current situation in Syria does not allow this," he added.

On Sunday, the Israeli cabinet held a special meeting on the Golan Heights and Netanyahu opened the meeting with a declaration that “the Golan Heights will always remain under Israeli control."

The Prime Minister also called upon the international community to recognize Israel’s control of the territory.

I don’t care if Obama or the GOPe agree. They are not the final arbiters.

The entire world does not recognize Golan as being part of Israel.

Yep. Israel was attacked first. It’s boilerplate international law.

I support Israel with Jerusalem as it’s eternal capitol, but the Golan heights is not Israeli territory. It is occupied Syria and taken for security measures as it occupies the high ground in the area.

Israel is the only one who can decide what is part of Israel.

God is the one who decides what is part of Israel.

The world in general, and the (non-believing) Israelis themselves, in particular, fail to appreciate that fact at their peril.

Obama doesn’t consider Israel to be part of Israel. (It’s just one big “settlement.”)

“Israel doesn’t consider Texas to be a part of the United States...” That statement would make just about as much difference as the other... (Of course, a lot of Texans might agree with that one...)

I was surprised to learn that what you posted is true.

The U.S. likely has a long-term vision of Israel returning to its pre-1967 borders at some point in the future. It was the U.S. that insisted on Israel returning the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt under the 1976 peace accords, after all.

This may sound presumptuous, but I don't think God cares very much about a radically secular country in the Middle East where they celebrate "gay pride" parades every year -- including one in Jerusalem, of all places.

If I lived in Israel, my biggest fear would be that God might consider my country an abomination.

"During the 19 years that the Golan Heights were under Syrian occupation, when they were a place for bunkers, wire fences, mines and aggression, they were for war. In the 49 years that the Golan Heights have been under Israeli rule, they have been for agriculture, tourism, economic initiatives and building. They are for peace," he said.

"Two, after 50 years, the time has come for the international community to finally recognize that the Golan Heights will remain under Israel's sovereignty permanently."
Interesting the Golan is center focus now.

And how about those numbers - 19 for the Satanic Cult of Death (where have we seen that before?) and 49/50 for Israel...

Exactly the same position as ISIS!

And in a stunning coincidence, CIA creation and USGOV supported ISIS has a major presence (wait for it, Bueller? Bueller?? Bueller???) on the Golan border!

Gog figure!
