How Rupert Murdoch warmed up to Donald Trump's candidacy

The most intriguing part about the New York Post's endorsement of Donald Trump might be what it says about the relationship between the candidate and Rupert Murdoch.

The Post, of course, is owned by Murdoch, once a vocal critic of Trump's presidential campaign. The tabloid's endorsement comes amid a thaw in tensions between Trump and Murdoch's media empire.

Trump and Murdoch have had several meetings and conversations in recent months, according to sources close to both men. Those discussions were brokered by Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, the owner and publisher of the New York Observer, the sources said.

Kushner, who helped write Trump's speech at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference last month, encouraged Murdoch to have a dialogue with the Republican frontrunner.

Over the course of these discussions, Murdoch has apparently come to see Trump not only as a serious candidate with potential, but also as the GOP's inevitable nominee, the sources told CNNMoney.

It's a far cry from where their relationship stood last summer. At that point in the campaign, Murdoch said that Trump was "embarrassing his friends" and "the whole country."

After Trump made harsh comments about John McCain's service in the Vietnam War, the Post ran a cover depicting Trump on a raft with an encircling shark lurking behind. "Don Voyage!" blared the headline. In its endorsement on Thursday, the Post's editorial board said Trump "has the potential -- the skills, the know-how, the values -- to live up to his campaign slogan: to make America great again."

"It's a big journey from 'Don Voyage' to endorsing," one of the sources told CNNMoney.

So, I guess this mean that trump is the new darling of the GOPe.

After all, you cannot get much closer to the GOPe, than to be endorsed by the man who owns the New York Post, and Fox News.

Oh bullshit. Murdoch ‘warming up’ to Trump is like an arsonist applying to be a member of his local Volunteer Fire Department, give your head a shake.

Trump isn’t going to trust Murdoch as far as he can throw him, and neither should anyone else.

Sure you can...you can be Ted sCruz.

He is the GOPee's anti-Trump...just count the second ballot delegates to understand why.

Whereas Cruz would still hold a grudge and be incapable of building any bridges, and would likely sell what little soul he has left to get anywhere, Trump is able. It’s “Trust, but verify” in the 21st century.

There's only a little white booger's distance between Ted and the GOPee.

Yes...that's gross. But it's Ted booger...not mine.

Heidi keeps her distance. Who can blame her.

They don't even live together.

I was a delegate at the Georgia 3rd district convention yesterday. The delegates there were overwhelmingly pro-Cruz. The same delegation also voted to censure Gov. Nathan Deal for his vetoing of the religious freedom legislation presented to him recently.

Trump and Cruz supporters can disagree on a nominee. We don't have to accuse each other of being Establishment. Cuss words like that do not elevate the discussion.

Notice the dimples on Heidi's left cheek as she tries to move her mouth away from Ted.

Ted is a nauseating character. At least his family thinks so.

The truth will always get out somehow.

Right, Ted?

I think the only reason that Murdock and Kelly talked to Trump was because we started boycotting Fox News Network, which I don't have, and the ratings dropped...

People have power, and if we can find out who these crooked RNC guys are, we can boycott their ‘gravy train’ also...worked in a lot of other things before, it can work again!!!

I agree.

I stopped watching Fox News when Megyn Kelly went after Trump during the first debate.

She was an unprincipled strumpet. A bonehead, trying to make a name for herself. I was COMPLETELY turned off, turned the channel off completely and walked away. I have not watched since. And I was a BIG Fox News fan, before.

If Murdoch has changed, we will see. For now I still see him as the enemy. If you’re for real Murdoch, show it, some way, very publicly. I have completely turned from your channel, and it used to be my favorite.

Show us, Murdoch.

What cuss words are you referring to?

For most conservative, being called Establishment without a reasoned argument behind it is the equivalent of cuss words. I don't mind being called a Cruzer or a Cruzbot, but calling me and my co-delegates at the convention yesterday "Establishment" is the equivalent of calling us a cuss word.

Right now we are the Montagues and the Capulets, but there will come a time when we have to get everyone on the same team.

I assume that the Trump supporters here are conservatives acting in good faith who disagree, and I expect the Trump supporters to return the same courtesy.
