And so it begins...............
I tell you, you have hit it right on the head.
To even get the hell out would be a problem. That is why I tell people to get the hell out within a day of the thing happening before the shock wears off the scum.
We are headed for a full Moon on the 21APR2016 at 10:24pm PST. This should help amplify a quake that hits the west coast in the next five days.
LA Times: A powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake shook Ecuador’s central coast Saturday, killing at least 28 people and spreading panic as far away as the capital of Quito as it collapsed homes and rattled buildings.
The quake, the strongest in decades to hit Ecuador, was reported at 4:58 p.m. Pacific time, 17 miles from Muisne, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It was centered in a sparsely populated area of fishing ports popular with tourists. The depth was recorded at 12.4 miles.
Vice President Jorge Glas said in a televised address that there were initial reports of 28 dead in the cities of Manta, Portoviejo and Guayaquil. Among those killed was the driver of a car crushed by an overpass that buckled in Guayaquil, the country’s most populous city.

NY Times: In Quito, about 105 miles from the quakes epicenter, the shaking was felt for about 40 seconds and residents there fled to the streets in fear. The quake appeared to have knocked out electricity and cellphone coverage in several neighborhoods around the capital.
“Im in a state of panic, said Zoila Villena, one of the many residents of Quito that congregated in the streets. My building moved a lot and things fell.
It looks as if the quake down there was a plate slip. means that the plate slipped sideways. The duration of those are a LOT less than what the Cascadia would be.
The Cascadia will be a subduction quake. Subduction zone breaks are longer in duration and LOTS more severe.
The Japan Quake and the Indo quake a few years ago were subduction quakes.
Cascadia fault
FEMA tells any survivors west of I-5 to walk east, expects nothing man-made to be in one piece. Last quake about 9.0 based on landscape damage uncovered from ~1699 shake. Mystery tsunami recorded in historical archives from that period in Japan.
When the quake stops, will have 10-15 minutes to get above +150 foot altitude along coast.
I’ve been suspecting/predicting a great quake near the 1960 Chile quake, along the west coast of SA.
Don’t think this is it, though...
Yes, they say that the coast range has been rising a lot. They determined that when it slips, everything from the coast range to the ocean moves. That thing will be felt for quite a ways inland and of course, the closer to the coast, the worse it will be. I say that anything from the Cascades west will be messed up big time.
Then, they are wondering if it will trigger the volcanoes in that range.
Well aware of ALL the possible outcomes. I’ve studied the Cascadia on an amateur basis for awhile now. Since I live south of Tacoma, and about 450 feet above sea level, and well away from the water, ground shaking is my biggest concern. Not sure if my house would fare too well.
Ring of Fire bump!
