The U.S. government on Friday barred its employees from traveling to the Mexican resort city of Acapulco, where a rise in homicides attributed to drug gangs has made it one of the worlds deadliest cities in recent years.
The new travel guidelines posted online by the State Department extended a ban that already covered nearly the entire state of Guerrero, where Acapulco is located and which has been a flashpoint of drug violence.
American government employees previously could go to Acapulco as long as they traveled by air instead of land. They are still allowed to visit the Guerrero state resorts of Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo if they fly.

they WILL pay for the WALL!!
Geez...I thought this was going to be about some LGBT issue.
Mexico is basically a narco-state. The people there need to have their civil war and oust the ruling class (white descendants of Spainards) who are keeping the rest of the country poverty-stricken.
True.
I wouldn’t set foot within 100 miles of the Mexican border never mind inside Mexico.
There seem to be two ways to keep the poor/ignorant in line. Pay them to keep quite (our choice) or at the point of a gun (Mexico).
What is the situation in Cancun? I have some family members planning a trip there this fall. Should I try to talk them out of it?
I just got back from Playa del carmen (cancun)..
The people there know who butters their bread and are quite nice.
There is actually a budding “middle class” taking effect in that area.
That said, if you leave your resort I would not wander too far off the beaten path.. that “budding middle class” is not what it is here.. there is still a lot of poverty and I’m sure dangers out of certain areas.. I think of it like being in Chicago - stay north my friends stay north..
Cancun is like Miami - Playa is like the keys.. just be smart.. I never felt threatened.
Yep...nailed it.
Forget the next five minutes of your lives boys.

One of my favorite scenes from one of the best episodes or RS. The chubby banker did pretty well on screen too.
I was there with my family quite a few years ago and returned with both kidneys.
If they go, advise them to stay close to your resort and don’t go into Cancun.
If they still offer that boat trip to Isle Mujer, that was fun, you book that ahead.
The Mayans running it were OK even if they take you to their sister’s shop on the island.
But the people working in the upscale shops in Cancun—one woman was openly hostile. She made it pretty clear she didn’t care for Americanos. All I wanted to do was buy a Cuban cigar and this woman acted like I was trying to buy her.
I can’t imagine it’s any better. I wouldn’t go back, especially considering how things have deteriorated with the narcotics.
Only problem is, the aftermath will be Venezuela II.
How long before bh0 orders Fort Bragg, NC to be relocated to a lbghtwxyz friendly state?
My last time in Mexico was over 30 years ago.
We witnessed locals intentionally ram a vehicle from the US.
The motive was perhaps to create a chance to rob the Americans, or extract money to not have the “collision/accident” reported to police.
It was so blatant and obvious, that I decided then “never again.”
So 15-20 years ago, my BIL got a place in Baja, in an American colony. A weekend getaway, and he was extremely indignant with me when I warned him.
Things went along fine for a few years, and then it turned and things started going not well. They wound up just walking away from what was left, of their property, the park, etc.
What had started off being a well managed mobile home park in Rosarito, just a few miles from San Diego, is no longer that.
