Parole approved for Charles Manson cult member Leslie Van Houten

CHINO, Calif. -- A California panel recommended parole Thursday for former Charles Manson follower Leslie Van Houten more than four decades after she went to prison for the notorious killings of a wealthy grocer and his wife.

The decision will now undergo administrative review by the Board of Parole Hearings. If upheld it goes to Gov. Jerry Brown, who has the final word on whether the now-66-year-old Van Houten is released from the California Institution for Women in Chino.

Brown previously blocked the parole of former Manson follower Bruce Davis, citing the gravity of his offenses and his refusal to fully accept responsibility for his role in the murders of a stunt man and a musician.

Van Houten was "numb" after the parole board decision was made at the California Institution for Women, said her attorney Rich Pfeiffer.

Van Houten, a one-time homecoming princess, participated in the killings of Leno La Bianca and his wife Rosemary a day after other so-called "Manson family" members murdered pregnant actress Sharon Tate and four others in 1969.

Good post she just might need to live her life out in prison for what she did.

This miscreant never needs to see the light of day again. We would have saved allot of money by executing her after her conviction for these atrocities and spent the money saved on something worthwhile. At the very least she is a proven dangerous sociopath. People like her are wired differently and don’t “get better”. By better I mean sure I stuck that fork in the pregnant women’s belly to kill the little capitalist pig inside but I feel much better now. Uh... No lady, there’s no getting “better” from that.

Sentenced to death for participation in at least two murders.

Commuted to life in prison.

Re-tried sentenced to two life terms.

Predictions have been made by former prosecutors in her case that her two murder convictions might not prevent her being released, although that would be without precedent in California. (wiki)

MY big beef is getting a reduced sentence due to “good behavior”. They committed the crime; they should do ALL the time!

Ya, this is the state Charlie Mason moved to from Ohio. Too bad he didn’t stay put.

Not sure if she was the worst or not but Van Houten stalked into the house of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca and participated in Rosemary’s murder, stabbing her approximately 16 times. So an innocent by no measure.

The lack of swift executions after murderers are found guilty is a crime, a blot, a stain.

“I thought “Life” meant life. Oh, this is Kalifornia. Never mind.....”

California has nothing to do with it. Had she been in Texas are any other state and participated in the murders of common people, she would have been cut loose years ago.

Bernadine Dohrn murdered and is an adviser to the current President. I wouldn't be surprised if Moonbeam lets her out.

I respectfully disagree with your well stated post.

If it took my signature to free this woman there is no way on this green earth I would sign. Someone sick enough to do something like this 45 odd years ago is possibly still just as sick ergo she could do it again and I would not assume that responsibility.

As Trump repeatedly says on a plethora of issues “we gotta be tough”. So, leave her where she is.

That was Lynette ‘Squeaky” Fromme.

I used to kick Squeaky Fromme out of the gun shop I managed, The Olde Sacramento Armoury, on a weekly basis, including the morning of the day she took the pot shot at President Ford. . .

Every nut job on the planet moved to California in the late ‘60’s. The state has never recovered.
