Shoe Company: Obama Admin Pressured Us to Stay Quiet on TPP (shut up or no Pentagon contract)
Weekly Standard ^

Posted on 04/14/2016 3:59:46 AM PDT by quesney

The Boston Globe is reporting that U.S.-based shoe manufacturer New Balance has come out hard against the Trans Pacific Partnership trade deal. The odd thing, though, is that "the Boston company had gone quiet [on TPP] last year."

Now, apparently, we know why:

New Balance officials say one big reason is that they were told the Department of Defense would give them serious consideration for a contract to outfit recruits with athletic shoes.

But no order has been placed, and New Balance officials say the Pentagon is intentionally delaying any purchase.

New Balance is reviving its fight against the trade deal, which would, in part, gradually phase out tariffs on shoes made in Vietnam. A loss of those tariffs, the company says, would make imports cheaper and jeopardize its factory jobs in New England.

"We swallowed the poison pill that is TPP so we could have a chance to bid on these contracts,...We were assured this would be a top-down approach at the Department of Defense if we agreed to either support or remain neutral on TPP. [But] the chances of the Department of Defense buying shoes that are made in the USA are slim to none while Obama is president."

All this government spending amounts to REAL POWER that's being used to shut people up - lots of them. Systematically.

That includes the people/companies we don't know about.

In this case, a company is being told to shut up about a deal that puts its private-sector markets at risk so it can become more dependent on government money.

What a trade.

Trunp should mention this one in speeches... The comlany is risking a potential deal to inform americans on the truth of TPP. Trump should try to get people to buy New Balance.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. This type of fascism may be an inevitable result of a modern economy in a nation that seems to have run its course.

The GOP, and its star, CanaCuban Cruz-LieForever,
lined up and helped ObamaTRADE.

Almost every single one, except Sen. Sessions.

The GOP is nothing but a self-EXEMPT lying coven
of thieves and criminals who stole the US Constitution
from the People. And now, even their votes.

New Balance shoes are one of the best brands on the market. I’ve been wearing them since back when they really were making them in the USA.

“But no order has been placed...”

New Balance provided the tat but never received the tit.

So do you agree with me that it is completely wrong for the President to use his political power to put pressure on a business??

>>That includes the people/companies we don’t know about.

Just imagine how many corporations have embraced the gay agenda and the multiculti agenda because of economic pressure from government purchasing agents.

I recently toured Jim Davis’ car collection. It was quite stunning! 100 or so mint cars in perfect condition, that he just looks at. My mechanic happens to be his mechanic. Since Davis’ cars never move, I actually give the mechanic more business.

We’ve got to elect someone that will fight for the American worker. It doesn’t appear the demos or republicans in office now are that interested in fighting for American workers.

Taking taxes out of the private sector, and NOT reinvesting it back into America?

Of course not, that might help America. Obama's goal is to bleed America dry.

Am I the only one who’s shocked that the Weekly Standard would publish a piece critical of TPP???

I love New Balance - one of the few companies that makes a wide enough shoe for me.

This is why you see so many corporations pushing the homosexual agenda now.

They have been ordered by the Obama regime to toe the line or else. CEO’s of corporations didn’t just all by chance decide to fully support the insane radical homosexual agenda. It is the Obama extortion that is forcing it on them and us.

Let’s pass a law outlawing any and all manufacturing in the USA. All factories must close by 2020. Let’s just get it over with and be done with it.

Well, well!
Seems NB took the corporate welfare/crony capitalist bait.
NB made a covenant with Satan, death, and hell.
NB should have stood their ground. Guess their feminist side came through.

I’ll wager NB (state-side manufacturing, at least) won’t exist in 5 years after the agreement gets the stamp of approval from the HOR, Senate, and the POTUS.

I have no sympathy.

I will now be buying New Balance shoes. I did not imagine that we had a single shoe remaining that was manufactured in the USA.
