Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas meets the criteria to be considered a natural born citizen and can run in New Jerseys Republican presidential primary on June 7, an administrative law judge ruled Tuesday.
Judge Jeff Masins decision will now go to Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, who also serves as New Jerseys secretary of state, for consideration. She can choose to accept it in full or in part, or reject it.
Masin heard arguments Monday on two challenges to Cruzs eligibility to run for president. In both cases, the challengers argued that, because Cruz was born in Canada, he is not a natural born citizen, one of three constitutional requirements for the presidency.
Cruz, 45, was born in Calgary, Alberta. His mother, a U.S. citizen, was born in Delaware. His father was born in Cuba. Cruz has said that a child of a U.S. citizen is automatically granted citizenship at birth and is therefore natural born.

So, pick a British general, redcoat, back in his country, and an American woman.
And my point is that black slaves were NOT considered NATURAL men but were considered less than human.
So, one cannot derive an argument one way or the other about the definition of NBC from the existence of black slaves.
Because no one has yet answered it, and I have developed an abhorrence for wasting my time reading utter crap compiled by people who fancy themselves as modern day prophets of doom.
Personally, I think it's a fun read.
People generally do when other people regurgitate their preferred opinions.
Was there anything in there relevant for an objective person to read?
People can be American citizens at birth yet still not be ‘natural born citizens.’
The Constitution acknowledges this fact. There were citizens distinct from ‘natural born citizens’ before there ever was such a thing as a ‘naturalized’ citizen.
Must be a horrible lot of work, because no one seems to want to do it so far.
And no, i'm not going to bother reading a huge load of crap for the possibility that there might be a nugget of something worthwhile in it.
If you or others can't tell me what bit of it is worthwhile to read, I will just regard the whole thing as a sort of verbal circle jerk for believers.
I like my analogy I will be using it again in the future.
If the term Natural Born Citizen is supposed to be derived from "Natural Law" then you certainly can.
Does God the Creator as referenced in the Declaration of Independence consider slaves as less than human?"
I was responding to the claim that Natural Born refers to "Natural Law". Natural Law refers to laws of God and nature and not the laws of men. It was by the statutes of men that slavery was instituted. Slavery is entirely inconsistent with Natural Law. Citizenship of a country is not determined by reference to God's laws and that under God's "Natural Law" all men are created equal.
The fact is that Citizenship is determined not by Natural Law but by the laws of men.
No you cannot.
You are asking a separate question: Does natural law incorporate ALL men? The answer is YES.
However, they did NOT consider black men to be fully human.
So, THEIR discussions of natural law were inadequate. One can make no assumption about THEIR inadequate interpretation of natural law by pretending that they were using an adequate interpretation of it.
If you're at all curious, go to the link I reposted to you from post #5 and get to know the Cruz family. Or don't.
Personally, I think it's a fun read. "Lyin' Ted", indeed!
Obviously not.
But I hate hypotheticals. They don't really persuade anyone.
That’s nice I’m still not voting for him.
Still nothing? Still not a single worthwhile fact?
Again, my initial assumption must be absolutely correct. There is not anything in that massive wall of blather that is worth the trouble for anyone to bother reading it.
It must be just a massive spiel from someone who likes to read their own writing, and of no real worth or value to anyone else.
I don’t understand your point. Does Natural Law change because of men’s interpretation of it?
At any rate it was a mistake for me to chime in.
I am sick to death of these vitriolic destructive election threads.
I need to take a break.
Duchess47 summary was accurate and to the point. But, I especially liked the part about Cruz’s father’s adventures being a bigamist. The section on the elder Rafael’s Cuban childhood seems to be quite an elaborate fairly tale. The acorn falling not so far from the tree seems applicable.
Natural law does NOT change.
But to make a point about their understanding of NBC when they had a corrupted sense of natural law when it came to black men DOES NOT make sense if it doesn’t take that into account.
I believe in once saved always saved.
If I see a sermon by someone who does not believe in OSAS I must take that into account. I can’t just go along with their predictions about those believers who have backslidden.
I’m trying to say the same thing, but perhaps I’m not writing it well.
Mans understanding of Natural Law is irrelevant. If it is God’s law, then it is constant and not subject to change. Natural Born Citizen status is the creation of men not God.
I’m done.
No sweat, at least you know somebody who is hidebound to follow the law can poke that hole in it!
Not so much a fact, but a question:
If Cruz's mother wasn't an American citizen when Ted was born in Canada, and his dad wasn't an American citizen when Ted was born in Canada, then why is Ted Cruz calling himself a Natural Born American? What a family story young Ted has and what a family story he likes to tell.
Just not the same story, though. Poor kid.
Actually the Constitution is silent on what constitutes a Natural Born Citizen. The founders clarified their intent with the firsts acts of Congress. What they actuall passed and signed into law is:
“the children of citizens of the United States that may be born beyond Sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born Citizens: provided, That the right of citizenship shall not descend to persons whose fathers have never been resident in the United States”
“No judge which upholds the law should even be questioned much less impeached.”
Which of course does not apply to this judge, who infamously opined:
Administrative Law Judge Jeffrey Masin presided, who Apuzzo noted was the same judge who heard his ballot challenge to Barack Hussein Obama four years ago nearly to the day. [....] Then the judge came out with his famous line that Mickey Mouse could run for president. It was just unbelievable.
