He's talking about running the country, but Donald Trump's record on voting in elections, or rather the lack of it, is coming under fire.
The New York City Board of Elections says Mr Trump did not vote in any primary elections for 21 years.
The registered Republican, who has been touting himself as a prospective presidential candidate, would first need to get GOP voters to nominate him in a primary - a process in which official records show Trump repeatedly failed to participate in.
Mr Trump became a Democrat in 2001, and documents show he ignored that party's primaries as well, missing the 2001 and 2005 primaries for mayor.
In 2002, not only did Mr Trump miss the Democratic primaries for statewide offices, but records show he also skipped the general election, the AP reports.
There is also no evidence that Trump voted in the presidential primary between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, even though he voiced support for Mr Obama after Mrs Clinton took New York State.

Trump can’t seem to make up his mind which party he wants to belong to, he’s changed parties 5 times.
He may not have voted in the primaries but he sure as heck donated over $3 Million mostly to Dems or RINOS.
Reagan was a UNION BOSS, an FDR FANATIC, who as governor okayed legal abortions prior to any SCOTUS decree, but who later was very CONSERVATIVE and one of the all time great presidents of this nation.
You.... sir ( or madam) are an utter ass...that you could even write such a comment shows the total imbecility of the Trumpbots here....
Wow, that’s great! I never got 100% before.
You are the imbecile; not I.
If only all his fans used the same wisdom and judgement he has.
I didn’t vote in the primaries for 21 years either. They didn’t lower the voting age until after I had turned 21.
If I may take a shot at answering your question:
The “establishment” hates trump for many reasons.
He has attacked the republican party, not just for going along with Obama for two years, but essentially stacking the GOP for the last 15+ years.
His attacks on W. Might have been meant to stop Jeb, but they also hurt everyone who agreed to go into Iraq and used democrat talking points. He did not attack from the right, but from the hardcore left.
He made many enemies.
Having lived in Oregon for 30+ years, it never mattered whether I voted or not. The elections were called by the time I got off work, and I was in a liberal state, so my state’s delegates/electoral college votes weren’t relevant to the national outcome. So sometimes I voted, if the candidate was good, and sometimes I didn’t.
So what?
No it is not. For the record I have been a registered republican since 1972. That changes as of tomorrow. I am done done done . I will declare no affiliation as it now stands
You are just being obnoxious at this point
He knew Ted Cruz would steal his vote”
Doesn’t vote in 21 years and is a registered Democrat before he becomes a “Republican” and is accused by his former wife in a sworn deposition that he raped her?
Now THAT’S some funny shite. Keep it coming Donald.
“Full Title: Donald Trump did not vote in a primary election for 21 years (so why does he interested in politics now?)”
Among the many other reasons, a businessman in New York City may avoid some discrimination against himself and his business if he can keep political enemies from knowing he is voting for Republicans. Voting in a primary election requires the businessman to disclose votes for Republican political candidates that can attract just that kind of costly discrimination.
The most interesting tidbit.
“Mr Trump said: ‘I voted in every general election Youre going to pay a big price because youre wrong ... I have records that I voted and so does the Board of Elections I signed in at every election.’”
Anyone else wonder who the delegates that Cruz is "persuading" are really loyal to?
That is possibly the most stupid question ever posed on FR, or anywhere else.
He’s interrested now because he has to contend with it. It that the answer the author wants to hear? There’s nothing wrong with that. Voting in past primaries is not a requirement to run for office.
Alot of voters don’t bother with the Primary. They only vote in the November elections.
I would bet that no more than 35% vote strongly in both the primary & the general.
Mr. Trump isn’t just an ordinary “voter”. He’s running for our nations highest office. I expect more from a POTUS candidate.
