Pro-Trade Group Admits TPP Job Losses

A pro-trade group that wants Congress to approve the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership released a study Tuesday forecasting large income gains — but also acknowledging hundreds of thousands of job losses in some sectors.

The study by the Peterson Institute for International Economics euphemistically refers to job losses as “churn.” The study pegs the annual number at 53,700 per year during the 15-year implementation period, which means more than 800,000 total. And that’s the optimistic forecast by a group that supports TPP.

Curtis Ellis, executive director of the American Jobs Alliance, said Tuesday on “The Laura Ingraham Show” that he does not have much confidence in the numbers produced by the study. But, he said, it was telling that even a pro-trade study shows that tens of thousands of American workers would be negatively impacted.

“The Peterson Institute is a pro free-trade outfit,” he said. “They support the TPP. And even they say it’s going to cause Americans to lose their jobs. Fifty thousand people. And they’re numbers, they’re just really pulling them out of their hat or some other part of their anatomy. These are real people that are going to lose their jobs.”

"Even the people who support this acknowledge this is a disaster for the American working men and women," he said.

Ellis noted that Republican front-runner Donald Trump has confounded Establishment elites on both sides of the political aisle. It should not be a mystery, he said.

When a substantial portion of the voting public’s economic security is undermined, ALL Americans’ economic security is undermined. The shock waves of this impacts everyone. In addition to dealing with economic pirates like China and crony capitalists like Jeff Immelt who feed them, we need LESS government regulation and lower corporate taxes to encourage re-investment in America.

True. But we need to apply a tourniquet now!

Any other country willingly entering into treaty agreement with assured job losses for the people of that country would cause rioting in the streets. We must have really good social programs to keep the lid on TPP.

Tariffs designed to support wages and protect jobs are nothing more than a scheme to transfer wealth from one group to another. What gives one group the right to steal from another?

Cruz's VAT tax proposal exposes him as a fake conservative. There is no plausible cause to install a VAT tax upon the USA... Cruz has bigger goals, leader of the North American Union. Anointed Ted then can fleece the market place and fund the religious order of priests, namely his daddy.

The consumer sees no benefit and only job loses.

They have the right to vote for politicians who will in turn enact protectionist tariffs, agree? That is how a republic works.

Sooner or later, we’re going to have to overthrow the Washington elites and their sponsors to save this nation.

I was reading on Drudge today about cyber security of our electrical grid. How many American workers lost their jobs to the H-1B visa foreigners?

Our government is putting our nation’s security at risk and destroying our financial security.

It's not supposed to be good for the American worker in the first place.

You can argue of the pros and cons of tariffs but WE HAVE THE RIGHT to vote for a protectionist government.

The very first law passed by the first congress and signed by President Washington was the Tariff Act. Law numero uno.

When a substantial portion of the voting public’s economic security is undermined, ALL Americans’ economic security is undermined.

What makes this especially bad is that a lot of these jobs are in what used to be called "high-tech" industries (IT, industrial engineering, applied research, etc.). Those are solid, educated middle-class workers, not textile mill or assembly line jobs. Traditionally, the large middle class in this country has proved the social and political stability we have had in the past. They are the basic threads that hold the fabric of society together. Slice those and the whole thing unravels. The economic security that the middle class has enjoyed is now threatened, and they see that no amount of striving to improve oneself, getting educated and willing to work extra hours for little or no pay, won't save them. And when they lose hope of building a better future for themselves and their children, the country is ripe for revolution, which may very well be of the Jacobin variety.

So eat your damn peas, and don't whine when it is your turn to get churned. Can't beat that deal!

Employees of the Federal government, Goldman Sachs and members of the Bush, Romney and Soros families are not subject to churning and/or pea eating. Said exemption is contingent on not supporting or agreeing with Donald J. Trump. People who take a lunchbox to work, get their hands dirty in performing daily tasks and don't have time to lobby and/or protest are not eligible. Optional 100% sharia compliance available.
