Let me clarify this before we go any further: I am not writing this to pick a fight with anyone or to start any more unnecessary intra-party squabbles. I am only writing this to give you an authentic account of my experiences with some well-known conservative public figures to help clear the toxic air enveloping this electoral season.
If you are a true conservative, passionate libertarian or authentic Republican, there are few things more insulting than being labeled a sell-out. Actually, there is one thing: being labeled a sell-out when youve dedicated most of your life to exposing sell-outs. Why am I writing this you ask? Because the current GOP nominating contest for the presidency is tearing our movement to shreds and the rancid process is turning tested allies into fabricated enemies.

I think it will happen eventually but it will be top down and only after one of them wins.
Cruz/Trump or Trump/Cruz would be an unstoppable combination.
Trump won’t respect someone who didn’t give his all to win - so it’s going going to have to be a knockout that ends this fight. Until then it’s a cage match.
I’m as guilty as anyone of giving it back to trump fans when they post absurdities but I do have genuine admiration for there ardour. When the time comes to defeat the communists I hope we can join forces to fight the vote rigging and all out cheating that will take place.
I think the heat of this campaign will help forge a strong weapon against the left but it will require a good quenching at the convention. Magnanimity and honest respect will be needed from winner and loser alike.
Great joke!
“Bernie and Hillary are not far apart on the major issues.”
Only real difference is:
Hillary sees them as a means to an end (becoming President).
Bernie _believes_ them, deeply.
They are not voting for anyone different than what we have come to expect from the Republican Establishment.
It is TRUMP who has shaken the Establishment to the bone.
Cartel Cruz shakes nobody, anywhere.
The Establishment is shaking him down.
Charge!
At this point in primary season, I say Bring It On. Pour on the Vitriol. Go for it, Trumpsters!
As the primary season continues and ends, voters will become even more sensitive to which camp is trying to unite versus which camp is trying to win or blow-up-the-bridge.
Kinda like the Judgement of Solomon over the baby.
If Trump goes in with 1237, he's got my vote (vitriol notwithstanding). Otherwise, and it's the delegates that will determine this, it will be and should be Cruz.
Do you really believe that nonsense, or do you have a 'random spew generator' and just type what it puts out?
What utter nonsense.
This not an excellent piece. This is a self serving, short sighted piece. The media talkers all have their own agendas and their own shortcomings.
The discussion we should be having is how we are going to preserve the American Experiment with the founding principles intact. The next question is who is best qualified to do that, or at least get us that path.
To fail at the above is to give up our freedoms of press, of religion, life etc. We are losing all the gifts of our Founding Fathers and losing them to faux conservatives; to people who appear to be conservative, but who in this day and time have literally forgotten what a political system is really.
This is not the time to make all the points swirling around, but I must ask that we consider what is true conservatism, and wether Senator Cruz in particular is truly promoting that true conservatism.
Briefly, Cruz is the smartest guy in the race no doubt. He knows the constitution. He articulates almost of the principles of true conservatism those of his belief. He studied and clerked with some of the most prominent conservative voices in America.
But as we ask what is true conservatism, it becomes clear in my opinion that the GOPe and the talk show voices and Senator Cruz along with them can talk conservatism, but DO acts and take positions at odds with the conservatism we are diluting.
For instance, Cruz is a Citizen’s United supporter and evidently says it did not go far enough. His mentor, Chief Justice Rehnquist would probably not support Citizen’s and one brave person has written about that fact recently in a major Bar publication. Think about it. What is conservative about giving corporations power to give huge amounts of money to politicians other than taking away the power of the very citizens our Founding Fathers wanted to have that power?
Cruz studied with Robert George and Professor George of all people knows about the Principle of Subsidiarity which holds that the smallest social unit possible should be that in which power and decision making resides. That should preclude any true conservative from handing over power and even the sovereignty of the United States to the Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement , which is fast tracked by TAP and which in the negotiations and votes, Cruz played every political chess move to make sure they passed, without his name the voting roster where it could demonstrate his whole position on such trade deals.. Smart he is. But is it truly conservative?
Is this so called conservatism good for America? Is it truly conservative? Does it help the middle class, the citizens of America? The people which true conservatism is meant to protect?
I do not think so and find it frightening.
Okay, I read the sweet article. Warm and fuzzy, but the writer apparently hit a wall, lost, and moved on. Is that right?
Or did his clinical ambition put him down on all fours to let the DC Cartel bridle him and his big mouth, as Raphael Ted Cruz did, to become the mule for the Establishment and using him to try to knock out the only citizen candidate, the real outsider, who has smoked the field earning the people’s vote, cracked the code of the DC Establishment, and remains for months the FRONTRUNNER?
Conservatives “deep character” no longer can even see a change agent when they have one in their face. Besides, the word “Conservative” has been high jacked, with every pol in DC claiming it— the same ones who have never lifted a finger that even slowed the globalist open borders crowd, and whose weakling collective legislative voice and votes included that of Cartel Cruz, on more than a few occasions.
Methinks the giddiness of Wisconsin will wear off fast, as Cartel Cruz hits a sobering dry spell for a month, with the voters on the ground.
Ted Cruz placed the responsibility for the actions of the rioters on the rioters.
The nonsense that he blamed Trump for the Georgie Soros funded crap going on outside has been touted as truth but it isn't.
His other comments were about rhetoric and the behaviour of a candidate and their supporters.
There is nothing 'friendly' about the distortion of fact about Cruz's statements, but it speaks volumes about those who continue it.
Bernie and Hillary are not far apart on the major issues.
Only real difference is:
Hillary sees them as a means to an end (becoming President).
Bernie _believes_ them, deeply.<<<
Well worded! This is how I see Trump and Cruz, except that it’s cruz who sees them as a means to an end. I don’t believe that the two are in alignment 80% on anything because I see cruz as an absolute total liar. There isn’t a thing he can say, or do to change that. I see him as an absolutely evil and corrupt man to the degree that IF he were to become vice president, he’d be a vice to the president no matter who the president might be.
I’ve sat here and WATCHED that man lie through his ears KNOWING he was lying. I have zero use for him at all, whatsoever. ZIP, NADA, NONE. An error is one thing, but this man is a wolf in a sheep coat. There are only a handful of human beings on the face of this earth who are on the same list as he, but right now he’s at the top, Obama is third, with Hillary tied with Obama. Second place is for all pedophiles and abortionists. They’re usually at the top..because they are all liars and deceivers.
IF Paul Ryan were to take Cruz’s place, it would be a win for the country, provided Ryan was vice president of course.
You cannot be a conservative AND a globalist without being a deceptive liar. Go and compete with Merkle in Germany for a presidency if you’re a globalist, but get the heck out of the USA!
Socialism is a horrible thing for a nation, but I’d vote for Bernie before I’d ever vote for Hillary. They both believe in the same things, but as said already, Bernie is earnest, hillary is another deceptive globalist. In which case I’d be voting for honesty which takes me back to Lyin’ Ted Cruz...the coward. He demands Trumps tax returns while he hides the truth of his nationality and illegibility to run. A deceiver and a hypocrite.
If Trump puts him as vice prez...I won’t vote for Trump because Trump would be aligning himself with a deliberate liar, and deceiver. And who would be influencing congress???? A liar and deceiver. Who would support all the globalist BS that has us tanking? A lying, deceiving, globalist.
The end result would be the same as voting for Bernie. Further destruction of the nation, intentional destruction.
God help us, haven’t we had enough of that????
Trump might be a clumsy oaff, but I’d rather have an honest clumsy oaff than a deliberate liar and deceiver.
What movement? Besides Trump, all I see is static defense of the status quo.
This is a sincere request from a decent man. I haven’t read the thread yet, but I expect the replies will fall in line with what we see every day now...
Cruz sucks! Trump is horrible! You’re stupid ..you’re ignorant...no, no you’re evil, depraved, insane. Trump sucks! Cruz is horrible! Cruz will abolish borders and give America to Goldman Sachs! Trump will build a wall, name it after himself and then nuke China.
On and on and on...no one’s mind is changed or enlightened by this crap. Friendships are lost, views are distorted, gossip becomes gospel.
I remember that funny Eno comedy bit - hadn’t heard it in 30 years.
conservative, passionate libertarian or authentic Republican
Well I guess I just didn’t see what I saw or heard what I heard.
No, you haven't. Which is sad, because at the end of the day this is one of the most articulate and helpful threads on Free Republic. The posters here have done a fantastic job of explaining the problem with Cruz.
Unfortunately, you can't tell the difference between your comfort zone of mocking bickering children, versus respecting arguing adults. Maybe, just maybe, that's because you judge before you listen. In other words, "Momitis."
Get over yourself, you're really not all that.
The GOP eats their young, and their old. I am beginning to think that conservatives are as mean as the leftist claim.
Eyewitness accounts are often unreliable.
