Inmate serving life sentence for murder shot, killed while trying to escape prison unit (Arkansas)

A 41-year-old inmate at the Varner Unit was shot and killed Thursday while attempting to escape, according to a spokesman with the Arkansas Department of Correction.

Spokesman Solomon Graves identified the inmate as Christopher Wilson of Saltillo. Wilson had been at the prison since 2003 after receiving a life sentence without parole for pleading guilty to two counts of capital murder, records show.

Wilson entered the plea to avoid the death penalty in the December 2002 beating deaths of a woman and her 8-month-old son, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported Sept. 3, 2003.

The husband of Pamela Kay Reed, 26, found his wife's body in the driveway of their Saltillo home on Arkansas 286, according to the newspaper. The son, Lucas Aaron Reed, was found bludgeoned to death inside the residence.

Correction department officials as well as Arkansas State Police are investigating. Graves said that details at this point in the investigation are limited.

Check back with ArkansasOnline for updates on this developing story and read Friday's Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for full details.

Good riddance. Killed his wife and 8 month old boy. I wish more prisoners would "attempt escape".

Read a little more carefully, it was someone else’s wife and son.

#1 ~ I wish more prisoners would “attempt escape”.

He would have been better off in prison, now he is in Satan’s hottest dungeon...

It was someone else’s wife and son, according to the article, but I agree with “Good riddance!”

All of the invectives above are right on and apropos, but I'm thinking he didn't like the life sentence as much as he thought he would and committed suicide by escape

disclaimer; ... I haven't read the article and probably won't

Ironically, if he had been given the death penalty, he’d probably be alive today.

I’d like to thank this guy — for saving the taxpayers some money and heading off to Hell, where he belongs, early.

This kindof thing just baffles me.
Why in Hades name was he allowed to continue living and burden the rest of society?
What could the possible justification be for life w/o parole over killing the POS?
Damn this plea bargaining crap.

Mea culpa. Yep should have read the article first....what is sad is that we DO have a guy in prison for beating to death his wife and baby after he found out it wasn't his. Bastard. I hope he dies too.
