Ted Cruz Declares Wisconsin ‘A Turning Point’ In The GOP Campaign

By Sean Sullivan and Philip Rucker April 5

MILWAUKEE — Ted Cruz rolled to a landslide victory Tuesday in Wisconsin’s hotly contested Republican presidential primary, capitalizing on a difficult stretch for Donald Trump to cut into the front-runner’s overall delegate lead and deliver a psychological blow to the billionaire mogul.

Though the senator from Texas is reviled by many party leaders for his explosive and polarizing brand of politics, Cruz won over establishment Republicans as well as grass-roots conservative activists across this state who had come together in an urgent push to stop Trump. Late returns showed him leading Trump by a wide margin.

Cruz hopes his Wisconsin win transforms the trajectory of the race. Wisconsin adds a important Midwestern bellwether to the basket of mostly Southern or rural states he has won to date, giving the Texan evidence that he can appeal beyond ultra-conservative and religious voters.

Savoring his biggest night since winning the kickoff Iowa caucuses in February, Cruz declared before cheering supporters here in Milwaukee: “Tonight is a turning point. It is a rallying cry. It is a call from the hardworking men and women of Wisconsin to the people of America: We have a choice — a real choice.”

Trump remains in a favorable position nationally, but Cruz now has fresh momentum heading into future contests and Tuesday’s results increase the possibility that the nomination battle spills onto the floor of the party’s July convention in Cleveland

In Utah Glen Beck called Cruz the fulfillment of prophecy. Cruz allowed himself to be called the fulfillment of prophecy - and he reveled in it.

Cruz claims to be a reverent person yet he does this wickedly blasphemous act.

How’s that for a contradiction?

Congrats to your guy, he won well and looked pretty good in his victory speech.

That said Cruz folks have not been that magnanimous towards the Trump folks. That might be a short sighted tactic, though I am sure if feels good right now. On must think long term.

Further turn things around. If Cruz was headed to 1150 delegates at the convention and Trump somewhere around 800 or possibly less, how would you feel about Trump fans saving they were planning on winning the nomination by promising payoffs/special deals of one sort or another. You most likely would not like it.

Gloating now makes it harder for folks to come together later, and republicans have to in order to have a chance of defeating Hillary.

Not trying to pull down your moment of celebration, but that most likely means, if Cruz prevents Trump from getting the nomination assuming that minds are not changed (we end up with a 1150/800 delegate split favoring trump), that putting up Cruz will split the party. Sadly Cruz seems to be poison to Trump folks, do not assume they will rally round the flag after this rather nasty campaign, in which both sides have had their part to play, if they see their candidate both rejected and disrespected.

The best a Cruz fan can realistically hope for now is a dark horse candidate at the convention that Cruz fans like (perhaps Abbott of Texas?) who follows Trumps platform. That might unify the party and if both Trump and Cruz got behind such a candidate he might be able to draw in a lot of working class folks typically democratic leaning.

The only other option is a Trump/Cruz ticket, with Cruz as VP. that might still be a possibility and will allow for Cruz fans to see their favorite win the presidency in 4 years. He is still young and if the trump/Cruz ticket wins both sides could get something out of it.

Of course if what the Cruz folks say is true, that folks will suddenly turn away from trump and ted will gain enough delegates to be leading into the convention, well then Trump fans might rally round Mr. Cruz. But the betting houses are saying otherwise, and I have noted that the betting houses seem to have some of the best intelligence on whatever they run odds on, they are very rarely wrong.

So in line with the need for eventual uniting of the two sides, be magnanimous in victory, it will help down the line when we all need to be friends again.

Same is true of trump folks on the 19th, do not rub Cruz fans nose in sh-t. the ideal ticket is still a Trump/Cruz ticket and lets not make that impossible.

technically, I don’t think it can be called a ‘landslide’ unless Cruz was over 50%

congrats to his supporters, but he’s effectively out of the race, Wisconsin or no

Way to be classy. Join Trump in dissing the state because he lost.

That was the worst concession speech ever.

Ted won and he won big tonight but geographic patterns in the previous contests tell me Trump territory gets to vote next. Trump gets all 95 in NY and 25 in CT and wins in Delaware and Maryland as well.

Because of the trick delegate election system in PA, Cruz or Kasich may win a lot of the delegates who get elected, but Trump should lead in popular vote to pick up 17 votes on the first ballot.

Trump wins the big bulk of delegates elected the rest of this month with the exceptions being Colorado and Wyoming, where Cruz gets around 25.

Indiana will be the next chance for a head to head fight where Cruz and Trump are on even ground. That’s May 3rd.

Trump has the majority of votes of all those who have voted in the Republican contest for President.

Cruz doesn’t. Nor will he in the end.

Cruz is now nothing but an ugly frog in the sludge pond of the GOPe agenda to play “the rules” crap and disenfranchise the votes of millions in the majority for Trump. The “how it works” is total bull ****, and if dupes who play along with enabling the GOPe to do this to us, again, and again, and they will then corrupt the process at EVERY level next, not just his primary season, and we will have NO VOICE, just watch the Dems win 2016 in a landslide, take the Senate, and watch the Republican Party burn down.

Cruz is a creep. And his wife, too. Disgusting characters, both. The fact that he would even engage in such fornication with the GOPe and this agenda means Cruz has NO PRINCIPLES and, certainly, NO CHARACTER. You watch what is going to happen next if we are disenfranchised.

Trump loves to call Cruz ‘lying Ted.’

People don’t like that kind of ugliness. Cruz has never said anything personal about Trump.

By the way, have you read the latest Reuters poll?

That’s the poll all you trumpers worshipped and adored.

Drudge put up his siren for it.

No siren tonight, people, Cruz is ahead in this poll also.

If this poll is to be believed, then Trump has torched a 20-point lead that he has basically maintained since late-February.

According to the Reuters poll, Trump started to crater, rather than Cruz simple rising, on March 27. This decline reflects last week when Trump was finally called to heel on his scurrilous attack on Heidi Cruz, when his campaign manager was arrested for assault, and when he committed all manner of other douchebaggery.

It seems like the voters have finally had all the fun they can handle. It is also interesting that Kasich suffered a decline corresponding to Cruz taking the lead. This could indicate that a gradual decision is being made by Republicans to fall in line behind Cruz, despite any philosophical differences they may have with him.

After the thrashing Trump will take tonight in Wisconsin we’ll get a feel for what the poll measures.

That’s trumps 100th political obituary you’ve claimed. Nobody said trump’s nomination wasn’t going to be easy. Every time he falls, he gets back up stronger then ever. Remember trump won 7 of the last 10 contests. And finally going to real states.
