EDITORIAL: [Tim] Neville can't win in the fall [Colorado - U.S. Senate]
Colorado Springs Gazette ^ | Updated: April 3, 2016 at 9:28 am | The Gazette editorial board

Colorado's Senate contest is second only to the presidential race in importance to Republicans nationwide. To blow a rare opportunity, Republicans need only nominate State Sen. Tim Neville — a politician known for close ties to a special-interest lobby that insidiously harms gun rights.

If there's anything interesting in the Republican primary election here in Colorado, I may temporarily re-register from Unaffiliated to Republican for the occasion—e.g., to vote against Tim Neville. I attended a meet-n-greet he hosted a couple of months ago and I was not impressed. (Many of us here are looking instead at well-known Tea Party speaker Ryan Frazier.)

In my book, Tim Neville has at least three strikes against him:

  1. Since I signed up at his contact page he has produced a spamstorm of fundraising emails unlike anything I have ever seen: 59 hyperventilating requests for money so far in nine weeks, and as many as four in one day. The most recent is a rant against the cited article in The Gazette.

  2. His association with Dudley Brown.

  3. Religiosity over constitutionalism. Sort of like Ted Cruz, but without the hootin', hollerin' and arm waving.

(The reasons I put up his spam is that I gave him an expendable email address created for the purpose and it amuses me to monitor the sheer volume. And I mean "volume" in both senses of the word: quantity and loudness.)

Tim Neville WILL WIN.

Otherwise the Gazette wouldn’t have written this panic peace.

Tim has won in highly Dem saturated Denver/Boulder Districts.

The Clown author is trying to disparage Tim’s Christianity and Pro-2A stance in Colorado Springs!!!!.....which just happens to be the MOST Christian, Pro-2A city in Colorado.

“Religiosity over constitutionalism”

These imbeciles seem to feel the two are mutually exclusive.....As the founding fathers illustrated perfectly, nothing could be further from the truth.

Given Tim Neville's similarities to Ted Cruz, I would expect that both his campaign and the flames on this thread will be a microcosm of what's going on nationally and on Free Republic with respect to the presidential primary.

Trying to figure out what’s going on here.

Isn’t the CS Gazette a member in good standing of the evilstream misleadia? Why should I expect it’s editorial board to be conservative...which is another way of saying, “Why should I expect its editorial board to be honest?”

If the editorials and columns listed on their Opinion index page is any indication, The Gazette seems to be about 90% conservative.

“The Gazette seems to be about 90% conservative.”

Humph. They do appear to have something of a conservative bent. Thanks.

What is wrong with Dudley? RMGO is a great organization and so far as I can tell, the only 2A organization that is pushing for Constitutional Carry here in Colorado.

I had been using the same email alias for political stuff for several years. As the years rolled by, as more and more people got ahold of it, the spam gradually increased. I prepared a new email alias for political stuff and, during the transition period, was getting ready to "flip the switch" and get rid of the old address. I postponed deleting the old address, waiting for the spam to exceed my threshold of pain. The straw that broke the camel's back was when some &#@-*$%# leaked the old address to Dudley Brown. I deleted the old address on the spot.

CO is our 2nd best chance to pickup a Senate seat and we lack a first-tier candidate but have a wide field of lesser known choices who could have a decent chance against the unpopular rat Senator.

Tim Neville, being a State Senator, appearances to be the most the prominent candidate. He was appointed to a vacant GOP seat in 2011 and in 2014 was elected to a full term in a redrawn district, beating a rat incumbent. Very competitive looking district so he’s proven the ability to win a tough race.

Former State Rep and Vet Jon Keyser, and 2 Black Republicans, former Congressional Candidate Ryan Frazier, and El Paso County Commissioner Darryl Glenn are 3 other candidates.

I don’t know if Neville is the best choice or not but if he’s not I doubt it has anything to with this editorial. “Close ties with activist Dudley Brown”? Who cares?

I don’t know which one to support among the numerous Republicans running, but I know that it won’t be Ryan Frazier, whom I recall from his congressional race a few years ago was fairly liberal on social issues (he either was pro-abortion or pro-gay-marriage (back when practically no Republican supported it), or maybe both). I’m not going to demand that we run a 100% conservative for a U.S. Senate race in Colorado, but it’s not too much to ask that our nominee be pro-life and pro-traditional marriage. Besides, it’s not like Frazier has a proven conservative record on other issues or a good track record of winning difficult races.

I’ve looked at Daryl Glenn and he sounds promising, but he hasn’t raised any money. Maybe Neville is the way to go. Frankly, I would have preferred Congressman Doug Lamborn of CO-05 (Colorado Springs) to run for the Senate and have Glen run for the House seat. Heck, I’d be happy with Congressman Mike Coffman of CO-06 (who is far from the most conservative Republican in the state delegation, but is conservative enough and would be a very strong statewide candidate) running for the Senate, even though it likely would mean that the Democrats pick up his Dem-leaning House seat. I can’t believe that we’re on the verge of letting a liberal Democrat like Michael Bennet stay in the Senate for six more years (after having blown the 2010 election).

This one has had me baffled as to whom to support. The CO GOP once again acts like they’re not ready for prime time with this race.

I don’t know if Neville is the best choice or not but if he’s not I doubt it has anything to with this editorial.

Anyone who is on Neville's emailing list will have already formed an opinion of him—one way or the other. The article just echoes stuff I already know from reading his campaign emails and from my past experiences with Dudley Brown; but it's probably news to a lot of people who haven't been following the race.

Until it hit the House "kill committee", Neville had been using his doomed Constitutional Carry bill (SB16-017) as the centerpiece of his torrent of fundraising emails. At the time, I suspected that this bill was nothing more than a political theatre stage prop. But he seemed OK (and still does) on most issues, so I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

But this M.O.—sensationalistic but ultimately meaningless Second Amendment-related rhetoric as the basis for fundraising—looks to be straight out of Dudley's playbook; so when Neville's email (March 24) touting Dudley's endorsement arrived, it was dismaying but no big surprise.

A businessman named Robert Blaha is also running. His positions look like standard Tea Party. I don't know anything about him except for the material on his web site and his emails (which I signed up for along with Neville and Frasier).

What is wrong with Dudley?

I was very much involved with the recalls in Colorado. I remember calling Dudley to try to get his organization to help back the effort. He didn't seem to want anything to do with it but boy did he ever try to insinuate that he was leading the charge AFTER we won and turn it into a cash cow for himself in soliciting donations. He seemed disingenuous to me and a dilution to the cause by sucking money from it. Beyond that one experience, I know little about him.
I just googled him and according to this article, what I described fits his MO perfectly.
