Sen. Ted Cruz is out-hustling Donald Trump and looks set to ensure many Arizona delegates will defect to him in a convention floor fight.
The Texas senator, who ever since Iowa has played a stealthy ground game in contrast to Trump's chaotic populism, is taking steps to snatch the Republican presidential nomination from The Donald at the convention in July.
The New York businessman easily won last month's Arizona primary taking 47 percent to Cruz's 25 percent, scooping up all 58 of the state's delegates. That's nearly 5 percent of the 1,237 Trump needs for the nomination, and they're tied are to him on the first ballot.
But Cruz, exploiting deep opposition to Trump among grassroots Republicans, has been far more active in Arizona than Trump, insiders say. He's recruiting candidates for the available 55 delegate slots, that along with the other three delegate positions filled by party leaders, would be allowed to vote for him in a multi-ballot contested convention.

Not me. The days of holding my barf bag at the ready why I vote for the (apparent) lesser of two evils is totally, 100% over. I’d vote for Bernie before any of the Rs besides Trump. At least the collapse would be very soon and we could try to start again better.
But the party primaries are not a representational process, thats the point. The rules are malleable.
The entire primary political machinery has developed (since when, I have no idea) into a system that excludes voters from any real power. Its beyond disgusting and has to change, one damned way or another. I think millions of us see this clearly now.
Cruz is certainly confirming his inside-the-beltway creds. He is GOPe thru and thru!
Katsick got $700,000 from Soros a few weeks ago. That should hold him for a while.
Thank you. That’s why I’m trying to say.
How many times do we hear about “the two party system”? There’s no such thing! Factions were feared, yet now we have factions that believe they ARE the government, they have a stranglehold on power, and they use government to cement their power. This must change.
Every republican nominee since Lincoln has gotten a majority of the party delegates. All of them. Trumpy thinks he doesn’t need a majority to get the nomination. What an idiot.
So Lyin Ted cant win at the ballot box so he plans to commit theft?
Ya know, it’s time for an armed revolt at the convention if this even smells like he’ll be successful.
Elections happen in waves, maybe his wave is ebbing.
If he doesn't get to 1237 there's a process. If they don't change it then it is what it is. If they do change it to prevent Trump from getting then I think both SoL and I would join you in a protest.
As of now it looks like we're all going to get the chance to choose between two NY Liberals anyway.
Love your tagline! LOL
**** If they succeed at this, many will come to the conclusion that it’s time to destroy the party. ****
I had already come to that conclusion.
cruz is on an anti-voter warpath.
His only way to win is to nullify the voters.
The process is dependent on a rule yet to be established at the convention.
Cruz is dependent on being able to nullify voters and make this a GOPe election.
Certainly if they change them dramatically with the intention of denying either Trump or Cruz the same process that Ford and Reagan had then the party is done in my eyes.
Projection is rich with you guys. Just as hypocrisy is...
There is not one piece of evidence yet, showing this laughable claim of Cruz being a philanderer. Not one factual piece.
These rules appear to state that delegates must be elected by winner-take-all or proportional primaries, caucuses, and conventions. Direct delegate election by primary is also permitted.
In 2012, TheGreenPapers often included a statement such as "The participants at each caucus alone determine if presidential preference is to be a factor in such choice and, if so, how it is to be applied" to describe a nominating processes which elected delegates without formal binding to a presidential candidate. At best, we could only speculate about the preferences of the delegates and nearly every source tracking delegate counts had different figures. This type of delegate selection now appears to be prohibited. A state violating the rule will receive a 50% reduction in delegates and the RNC will allocate the delegates for them.
In addition, the delegates are bound to their pledge all they way through to the convention. In 2012, there were many claims that Paul delegates ran for and won delegate slots that where bound to Romney in a primary. The concern was that these delegates would vote for Paul at the National Convention. The 2016 rules indicate that a delegate can be removed for merely demonstrating support for a candidate other than one to which he or she is bound.
"Prior to 1 April 2016, any presidential primary, caucus, convention, or other process to select, allocate, or bind delegates to the national convention may ... allocat[e] delegates on a proportional basis." [Rule 16(c)(2)]
"Any statewide presidential preference vote that permits a choice among candidates for the Republican nomination for President of the United States in a primary, caucuses, or a state convention must be used to allocate and bind the states delegation to the national convention in either a proportional or winner-take-all manner, except for delegates ... who appear on a ballot in a statewide election and are elected directly by primary voters." [Rule 16(a)(1)]
Cruz is a very dirty politician.
Dirty Teddy.

“So what is your solution? You want someone who has FAILED to get a majority vote to be automatically made the candidate, in the name of democracy, and voting counts?”
Yes. Wouldn’t that be preferable to nominating someone like Cruz, who got even fewer votes, or someone like Ryan, who got none?
Getting closer to piecing things together every day.
And following the $500,000 infusion 2 weeks after her departure from Ted.
