Cruz snaring Trump's Arizona delegates
Washington Examiner ^ | 04/04/16 | David M. Drucker

Sen. Ted Cruz is out-hustling Donald Trump and looks set to ensure many Arizona delegates will defect to him in a convention floor fight.

The Texas senator, who ever since Iowa has played a stealthy ground game in contrast to Trump's chaotic populism, is taking steps to snatch the Republican presidential nomination from The Donald at the convention in July.

The New York businessman easily won last month's Arizona primary taking 47 percent to Cruz's 25 percent, scooping up all 58 of the state's delegates. That's nearly 5 percent of the 1,237 Trump needs for the nomination, and they're tied are to him on the first ballot.

But Cruz, exploiting deep opposition to Trump among grassroots Republicans, has been far more active in Arizona than Trump, insiders say. He's recruiting candidates for the available 55 delegate slots, that along with the other three delegate positions filled by party leaders, would be allowed to vote for him in a multi-ballot contested convention.

I understand if a winning candidate makes a pledge then breaks it, that allows other candidates to go after pledge breaker’s delegates. I think I remember the three candidates, now running for president, made a pledge to back the nominee. They all broke the pledge. I haven’t heard if Mr. Kasick or Mr. Trump going after another’s delegates. Delegate count really doesn’t matter if they can be stolen. I’ve never had much respect for politicians and this, I think, proves my thoughts correct.

This cannot be true.

After all, Ted Cruz is the principled conservative in this race.

He is not a vulgarian like that mean poopyhead, Donald Trump.

Yeah, right.

Oh, but it’s still that cloud. It remains. And this cloud of his...might be full of std’s ...for all the world to wonder about. Trump doesn’t have that std problem. Cruz -and his- wife do.

Or for the delegates to honor the voters wishes in the 2nd vote and chose the nominee with the most backing from the public.

Oh but that cloud.

I don't think too many people are worrying about "that cloud" other than Trumpkins. It was a one week story, but unless something substantial pops up, it will be forgotten quickly.

John Kossack will in fact get some delegates, mostly from the North East. If it deprives the interloper from getting them...well, all the better.

The will of the voter who has been flim-flamed is what the delegate hunt is meant to rectify. Those who are changing are doing so willingly. And the only ones more distraught by this than Trumproids...are the GOPe.

They made the rules. They shall perish (politically) by the rules. I am not a “troll” nor some “hack” bought off by some establishment Rino like Donny the Demonrat Donor either.

Though I did have a cave troll once. Miss the big fella. Had to send him off to a preserve...ate the neighbors. Got some new neighbors now.

Gee I really miss that cave troll.

FRgards,

THE HUNT IS ON!
Jedi.

For nearly a year, Trump's sales pitch has been as follows: "Other countries' leaders are smart. Our leaders are stupid. I'm going to hire the best people. We don't know how to win anymore. With me and the smart people I bring in, America is going to win so much you'll get tired of it."

A couple problems: (1) Trump hasn't hired the best, smartest people for this campaign; his people are getting their butts kicked in terms of handling the procedural aspects of the race. (2) Stories like this one coming out AZ suggest that even when Trump wins, the incompetence of his team turns a win into a loss.

If there's a candidate in this race who hires the smartest people, and finds ways to win, it's obviously not Trump. The candidate who seems to hire the smartest people and is adept at finding ways to win is a certain other candidate.

And instead of calling him a cheat and a vote stealer the Cruzites are saying Cruz is just being smart. Cruz has revealed himself to be the most dishonest, slimiest, hypocritical career politician I’ve ever seen for one who is supposed to be conservative.

I believe that some of the delegates remain bound on the second ballot.

Yes, in some states delegates do remain bound on a second vote. However, on a third vote it is pretty much a free for all from what I've read. Unless of course the RNC changes the rules right before the convention.

IMO, it is unlikely to be a contested convention. Unless something dramatic happens, Trump will have the 1,237 delegates he needs.

This is crazy. Arizona hasn’t even had it’s convention yet!AZ State Convention is on the 30th. Way to try to manipulate the process media!

My husband and I were elected State Delegates for Cochise County at our convention on Saturday. Our county couldn’t even muster our full contingent of 29 delgates, let alone alternates!

Each Candidate will be able to put out their own slate of Delegates for us to vote on. However, per Robert Graham, over 400 people have currently applied to be National Delegates! In my opinion, the AZ voters overwhelmingly chose Trump and only Trump delegates should be considered. Unfortunately the process will allow the delegates to switch after the first vote no matter who the state went for. My husband and I will only vote for Trump Delegates as he was the choice of the VOTERS. The same voters that elect us to represent them at the precinct level. As an aside, although those attending our county convention (Precinct Committeemen, elected officals, candidates, and members of the public) were pretty evenly split between Trump and Cruz. If you just counted those elected as State Committeemen, Trump had a majority. No one would admit supporting Kasich.

In addition, for the first time in my memory, AzGOP has required what amounts to a poll tax. To attend the convention it is neccessary to make a $50 “donation”. This is to supposedly defray expenses and gets delegates a sack lunch. AFAIK the convention will be at the same place we hold our state statutory and mandatory meeting. There has never been a charge and we were responsible for our own lunch. This fee and costs associated with traveling to Phoenix have discourage many from becoming state delegates. Only our county chair, his wife, and son have expressed an interest in going to Cleveland.

The entire process is skewed for the elites but they can only thwart the will of the voters if they are allowed to.

You want Ted to steal the nomination from Trump? You DO know Trump will run third party then right? ensuring Hillary the nomination? I can’t imagine in a million years what Ted hopes to gain by pulling this kind of trick.

You answered your own question. it doesn't matter to the establishment if it's Hillary, Cruz or Ryan. They've all proven that they're part of the establishment and will do whatever their overlords want. The only thing that surprises me is that Cruz supporters are too dense or deluded to see this.

Ted’s mother’s BC has been available online for months. So anyone spreading a rumor that there is a problem with her BC either can’t be bothered to research a bit, or doesn’t care that they are spreading debunked nonsense.

I had read somewhere that Ted’s mom was born in the USA but relinquished her citizenship in favor of Canadian citizenship 4 years before Ted was born. That would make him totally ineligible..and you’re right- it’s rumor.

That’s why they created a Republic. The party nomination process is quite similar to the electoral college.

The founder didn't create the Republican party or the dirty tricks they and the Democrats use to control access to the political system. What they're doing is exactly counter to what the founding father envisioned. They've created an entrenched political class that has shut off access to the political process unless you play their games.

Yes our leaders are stupid and worthless! That’s a no brainier.

Uh have you noticed that Trump is winning???

Trump has more than 2 million people against the next closest candidate Cruz.

Trump has won the most States.

Trump has won the most Delegates.

The Establishment has lost all their guys.

So now the Establishment is STEALING Delegates from States that Trump won.

Now the Establishment is saying our votes don’t count. Do you really want this country to turn into a Banana Republic.

I don’t understand how you cannot see VOIDING VOTES, VOIDING the Will, HIJACKING and SELECTING a candidate because you lost is a good idea? You have to be CERTIFIED INSANE to believe that.

Good men and women did not die in wars to let tiny groups steal elections from we the people.

Hey for a guy (the orange faced clown) you Trumpsters think should be able to run a country so well, his campaign insofar as securing actual delegates go is an utter disaster.

There are rules and Cruz is running circles around Trump in every state.

Yeah, those Arizona delegates will vote for Trump on the 1st ballot, but if he falls short they will largely defect to Cruz. And we see this repeating in state after state.

Better hope Trump’s incompetent campaign people are able to pull him over the line and get him the required delegates, because if he is even one delegate short Trump has alienated so many people via his campaign of insults, belittling, trashing, twitter rages, trumpertantrums, etc, that the majority is very likely to defect to Cruz on the 2nd or 3rd ballot.
