Cruz snaring Trump's Arizona delegates
Washington Examiner ^ | 04/04/16 | David M. Drucker

Sen. Ted Cruz is out-hustling Donald Trump and looks set to ensure many Arizona delegates will defect to him in a convention floor fight.

The Texas senator, who ever since Iowa has played a stealthy ground game in contrast to Trump's chaotic populism, is taking steps to snatch the Republican presidential nomination from The Donald at the convention in July.

The New York businessman easily won last month's Arizona primary taking 47 percent to Cruz's 25 percent, scooping up all 58 of the state's delegates. That's nearly 5 percent of the 1,237 Trump needs for the nomination, and they're tied are to him on the first ballot.

But Cruz, exploiting deep opposition to Trump among grassroots Republicans, has been far more active in Arizona than Trump, insiders say. He's recruiting candidates for the available 55 delegate slots, that along with the other three delegate positions filled by party leaders, would be allowed to vote for him in a multi-ballot contested convention.

Trump has to get 1237 on the first ballot. If not, then we’ll end up with Ryan or someone like him as a candidate. GOPe will not let Cruz in there, I don’t care what his supporters think.

a couple said the same thing here this morning. Another guy said it this weekend and a couple said it last week.
People are being disgusted by cruz and will stay at home or write in Trump
My wife and one son are saying the same thing.

They are so fed up of the lies put out and cruz and how he talks or how he blames Trump all the time when people have had enough of Obama blaming Bush.

There actually aren’t any rules yet. They still have to vote on them.

Trump wasn’t the only person who thought votes mattered.

All Trump has to do is get 1,237 delegate to vote for him on the first ballot and the nominating process is over. What Cruz is doing only comes to play on a second ballot where delegates are free to vote as they choose. In essence, the convention becomes a caucus. Whipping for votes. Bare knuckle politics. A process not unlike that used by the Second Continental Congress when they declared our independence from Britain.

Disingenuous much? A lot of those states’ votes occurred when there were a slew of candidates from which to choose. If Cruz wins WI tomorrow with ~40% of the vote and Trump gets ~30%, will you be going on about how 70% don’t want Trump?

It is the rules and the way the republican party works.

Well, the way the Constitution works is that a person must be a "natural born citizen" to qualify for the office of president.

Rather than waste time considering a third-party run, I think Trump should focus on forcing an unambiguous ruling as to whether or not the Canadian-born Cruz meets that qualification. In the remote chance that Cruz is be elected, you know damn well the Socialist Democrats will pound this relentlessly.

I think we can all agree that another eight years of debating whether the NBC qualification has been met would not be a good thing.

Let’s not get overly dramatic. No one is taking away your vote.

Assuming you voted in Arizona, you voted for a delegate to the RNC convention that will support Trump on the first ballot, NOT for Trump.

In the case of Arizona, the “Trump” delegate is obliged to vote for Trump on the first ballot, but if Trump doesn’t win on the first ballot, said delegate is free to choose another candidate.

All Cruz is doing is trying to influence these delegates to vote for him on the second (and subsequent ballot).

Trump (and his AZ team) should be doing the same and stop whining about the process.

What Ted is doing is not illegal, improper or immoral. It’s how we Republicans (and many of you may no longer consider yourselves Republicans) choose a party nominee.

All you Trumpers can avoid this teeth gnashing and try to get your guy over the 1237 delegate count. But don’t complain that Cruz and Kasich are playing the better ground game.

This is not corruption, it is INTELLIGENT HARD WORK. Donald is supposed to be the KING OF THE DEAL, but wants rather to roll to the nomination based on a plurality using the media and events as his spearheads. This is what he knows and has gotten him this far. The art of the deal includes putting one self in a strong position before the negotiation - he needs to change, or expand his attack to meet the challenge. It doesn’t help that he continually insults his opponents whose delegates he needs. Cruz has an intelligent plan of attack based on his survey of the battlefield and is executing it with vigor.

Trump was always just the road plow for Cruz. The whole Trump thing took on a life of its own and he’s been trying to throw it ever since and no one will bite.

The problem with that theory is that no one likes Ted. He is just an unlivable guy.

Did you notice New York threw out a challenge to Cruz’s eligibility the other day? New York threw it out. The constitutional experts here I’m sure would disagree with the law that has been written and the application of it. Is what it is.

According to a recent link I have been posting here quite often, there are no rules until they meet and they make the rules to fit the desired nominee when they do meet.

Are you suggesting Heidi lets Ted sleep around so one day she could sleep in the big house ..? Then one day she could run for office too after hitching her wagon to Ted’s ? Maybe first as senator..then as Sec of State ? Ok you didn’t say all that, I am just extrapolating :)

The perception will be that Cruz stole the nomination. You can talk about rules and organizing and all that other stuff, but what’s important is the perception.

Sure, maybe Cruz can pull the convention steal off, but he won’t win the general. He’ll lose, and he’ll take destroy a huge number of GOP candidates down ticket as well. You know why? Because he will appear to be illegitimate. And that’s all that matters, the perception. (and he WILL be illegitimate, no matter what Cruzbots say)

So I’ll stay home, and millions of others will stay home. And Hillary will win, the Dems will take the Congress, the SC, and everything else. Say goodbye to your 2A rights, and all your other rights after that. But that will be ok, because “the rules”, right?

As no candidate won 50% or more, delegates are not all pledged to Trump.

AZ's "Winner take all" only applied to a candidate who won more than 50%.

Trump's number at 47% failed the test to take all delegates, it's not cheating, it's their rule from 2012 long before anyone ever knew Trump and certainly knew he might someday toss his hat into the GOP race!

The more I see of Ted the more disgusted I am. He is the snarky guy in high school that is a know it all and shoved it down your throat. Until some big dumb guy beats the snot out of him. You know like Mitch McConnell when Ted voted for a bill that Mitch lied to him about

Trump or bust here too FRiend! If he’s robbed of it by these so called rules then I’ll be writing him in myself. Besides him the other candidates are all the same and there’s no way in hell I’ll follow the RNC over the cliff.
If anything, I’ll work actively against them in the the future, depends on what happens. Ball is in their court.
