Just happened here too, where my domain name server can find freerepublic.com, but not www.freerepublic.com. I hardcoded "209.157.64.200 www.freerepublic.com" into my hosts file, and everything works again.

There was this thread posted yesterday in Breaking News section on the right side...I think they were talking about access issues throughout the thread.

Seems people with Ipads could get on but not others? I don’t fully understand this stuff. I just waited until later this morning when I could access normally. Did not need to log in....I am basically logged in most of the time...

I was locked out ALL day yesterday!!! NOT HAPPY!!! Doughty One’s caucus thread popped up on search page and I clicked on it it got me onto the site, once here I saw everyone having same problems!!! Followed their instruction and they got me up and running again!!! We have some very smart folks here!! My phone is still locked out I will deal with it later!!! I am worried ALOT of us won’t know how to get here at all!! This is an FR problem to many carriers unable to bring up FR!!!

Many people have multiple "routes" to the internet, with each route having its own phone book/DNS lookup service. For example, I have a home network hooked up to Time Warner Cable for internet, a phone that uses AT&T wireless network for access, and a US Cellular phone that uses that network for access. each of these "routes" has its own Domain Name Lookup "phone book." Theoretically, all the phone books agree, but DNS hiccoughs are pretty common.

DNS problems eventually "resolve themselves." The propogation of the correction takes longer to some places than to others - same with propogation of the mistake. Like ripples on a pond.

I did a google search when FR wasn’t coming up to see if there was an alt site. (I was shocked to see all those antiFR sites). I did find the IP address for FR and with that was able to read but couldn’t login. It feels good being back in.

I pray everyone else finds their special key to get back in and Jim fixes the master lock.
