How the North Dakota GOP is freezing out Trump
Politico ^ | April 1, 2016 | Kyle Cheney and Shane Goldmacher

North Dakota will select its delegates to the Republican National Convention this weekend, but the party won’t be asking any actual voters to help do it. Instead, state party officials are relying on the ultimate insider process, one that tilts the playing field toward a party-backed candidate like Ted Cruz — and puts Donald Trump at a deep disadvantage.

An estimated 2,000 party officials and activists convene at the state party's convention in Fargo this weekend to pick 25 delegates to send to the convention in July. But unlike other delegates, North Dakota’s will be free to vote for whichever candidate they like, even on the all-important first-ballot where Trump could clinch the nomination with 1,237 votes, or fall short and find himself at the mercy of a contested convention process.

It's too bad that the delegates are being chosen based on who's doing the ground game in the state.

Now, if they were chosen in 4 AM Twitter session, Trump might have a chance.

Ping. On another thread you said “People who won’t take their own self-government seriously deserve their fleecing.”

How do the people of North Dakota take part in their own self government? Show up at the convention with torches and pitchforks?

The first people the North Dakota GOP froze out were the VOTERS.

Damn them for that.

Yeah, that "great ground game" is going to turn the enthusiastic first-time political participant Trump voters out in DROVES for the Republican nominee once the GOPee chooses the REAL candidate.

Some of you cruz people believe your own press. :)

None of these delegates are bound. They can vote for whomever they want at the RNC Convention. I don’t see how this is a freeze out of Trump or any other candidate.

Just like the old Soviet Union, “free” elections as long as the party chooses the candidates.

For a deal maker he’s really bad at making deals.

Nice try but it doesn’t sound like the GOPe is interested in deal-making and horse-trading. They are in desperation mode to keep Trump from the nomination at all costs because their very survival is at stake.

Cruz gets the politicians to vote for him. Trump gets the Americans to vote for him.

In the Soviet Union there was one party and they killed anyone who spoke out against the party.

Have they killed anyone here?

Can’t get any plainer than that!

As a North Dakotan (not sure there is such a thing as a former North Dakotan), I am appalled at what is happening up there :(

Nice try?

Trump is supposed to be a deal maker. Apparently he can’t make any deals when he’s not holding all the cards.

It take two to make a deal. As you well know, the GOPe is not interested in deal-making. Their mission is to keep Trump from the nomination at all costs, and if they have to use Cruz as a patsy, they will do so. But they aren't going to negotiate with Trump because that would result in their own destruction.

one thing many of the extreme leftists have often criticized our elections about.... is their alleged lack of representation of what the people, voters really want

and
here we appear to have a group or cabal of ‘insiders’ either ignoring or deliberately blocking the will, the desires, the wishes of the people

If Trump wins, he should get delegates. If Cruz wins the vote, he should get delegates. If Klem Kiddidlehopper wins (and he may be the best choice), then he should get delegates. The delegates do NOt, or should not, belong to some little secretive group of ‘insiders’ or politicians or political hacks or political bosses

imho.
