Something does not add up here. I am betting they were yellow jackets. I am pretty sure that honey bees don’t sting while swarming.

Might have been Africanized bees.
Doubtful they were yellow jackets... I’ve been stung multiple times by multiple yellow jackets... the sting is less severe than bees.
