Iranian Army Commander Maj. Gen. Ataollah Salehi on Saturday announced that Iran intends to deploy warships and destroyers in Latin America, in a sign of the attempts of the leading state sponsor of terror to expand its military cooperation with countries opposing the US.
We intend to take a longer stride in marine voyages and even go towards friendly states in Latin America," Salehi told reporters at the southern port city of Bandar Abbas, according to the semi-official Fars News Agency.
Speaking at a ceremony welcoming back the Iranian Navy's 38th fleet after 75 days of international deployment, he said Iran intends to increase its cooperation with the navies of Latin American states.
"The Navy is capable of deploying in that region," he asserted, while saying Iran is placing a priority on updating its navy with state-of-the-art weapons.
Iran has been looking to expand ties with Venezuela, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Cuba, Mexico and Colombia.
According to the Iranian semi-official Fars, "Iran's strong and rapidly growing ties with Latin America have raised eyebrows in the US and its western allies since Tehran and Latin nations have forged an alliance against the imperialist and colonialist powers and are striving hard to reinvigorate their relations with the other independent countries which pursue a line of policy independent from the US."

Now maybe we know what all this business about Obamas visits to Cuba were about.
They can operate out of Cuba with no problem from their buddy in the outhouse helping his new allies, Iran/Cuba!
And his plan to close Gitmo.
Laughable. We've ringed Iran with military outposts, run CVBGs a few miles off their coasts, get our patrol boats picked up in their territorial waters, and you folks want to be aggrieved that they might send a boat to Cuba in response? That's an impressive amount of insecurity to go with the bombast.
The Monroe Doctrine was about ending European hegemony in the Americas, which you seem to confuse with imposing a hegemony of our own. As to Iran's response to an unprovoked attack on their ships in international waters, I would expect them to retaliate in their neighborhood where we've considerately placed a large number of targets. Trafficking the Straits of Hormuz might become an issue as well for tanker traffic, and the impact of that on the world economy would far outweigh whatever advantage you imagine starting a war with Iran gains this nation.

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- Russia's push into Ukraine has put many on edge. But less known is that Russia is also strengthening its military links south of the Rio Grande and re-establishing itself as a power in the region.

Russia agreed to provide military training for three leftist regimes in Latin America and increase military visits and exercises following a visit last week to the region by Moscow's Defense Minister Sergei Shoygu, Pentagon officials said.
Shoygu met with defense and military leaders in Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua and signed several agreements on warship visits and military training during the visit, which ran from Feb. 11 to 14. It is not clear whether any new arms deals were completed during the visit.
Defense officials said the Russian leader is seeking bases in the region for strategic bomber flights that Shoygu recently promised would include flights over the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean.

Trump: Well, I think our country does plenty of killing also, Joe, so, you know. There's a lot of stupidity going on in the world right now, Joe. Lot of killing going on, a lot of stupidity, and that's the way it is.
Torpedo their ships with ones that don’t explode. They’ll get the message.
Maybe they’ll try to sail to Bolivia.
They won’t wait until 20/1/17. Any action they take will be while Odumbo is in office, but after November elections. Those ships are pathetic, but can be deadly if they load them with explosives and ram into a big ship.
What better way to transport heroin in bulk from landlocked Afghanistan than Iranian flagged warships.
They are cutting into the CIA’s business...maybe now they’ve gone to far?
Yes we did. The Great White Fleet did indeed go around the world. I’d bet against the Iranians on this one.
Maybe theyll try to sail to Bolivia.

A submariner of yesteryear that I know told me that in the shallow waters of the Persian Gulf, that is a very good color for a sub to be.
But not so much in the South Atlantic or Caribbean where they could base a sub at their prospective shinny new SA base.
True. Doubt that tub in the picture could make it that far ! Thanks :)
