How does Donald Trump see the world? And how would he approach foreign policy as president? Walid Phares, foreign policy adviser to the Trump campaign, joins Judy Woodruff to discuss the candidates stance on using nuclear weapons, reviewing the future of NATO, fighting ISIS and confronting China.

Its youtube video
Walid Phares was fighting jihadi Muslims before it was cool.
Best line, last line “national security for the United States comes first.”
About time. If Vietnam wants the USA to get involved with who owns what in the South China seas they better pay up for our navy. Sorry, time for altruistic “white man’s burden” ideology inherited from the Victorian era by the USA is over.
Would like to see Dr Zuhdi Jasser on his team in some capacity, too.
Trumps Foreign Policies go hand in glove with his Nationalistic position...that the US become less and less involved overseas in their affairs.
Interesting thought is we know that at some point in the future our nation does remove itself pretty much from it’s “footprint” there that has kept many wars and conflicts from esculating further and or even coming about because we are there........The current administration has for 8 years pretty much began this already....looks like Trump may even carry that further.
No doubt if Trump wins and does as he says....Foreign Governments will see each others military capabilities and their own national security in a very different light...... Those who are bent on overtaking other countries will surely be assessing the possibilities they would have were the US no longer engaged as they have been for decades. Europe then would have to form their own capabilities with what each country has to do so with.....and perhaps with the US assisting somewhat with tight limitations....but the Eastern leadership would surely see this withdrawal as an opportunity handed to them ....and Russia as well.
Pretty standard fare. He says Trump will make a coalition with Arab states to combat IS and now that the Iran deal has been signed this will be easier.
(In other words the Iran deal us good).
This is the establishment consensus as well and one of the establishment arguments against Trump (which I do not agree with) has been that Trump won’t be able to get such a coalition because of his anti-Muslim rhetoric.
Further he says Trump will ally with China to address IS. Again standard Foggy Bottom establishment thinking.
With respect to China’s expansionism, Phares sidesteps the question saying Trump will have to become President to be privy to info to understand that situation.
Phares is if course former Romney team and full on conventional establishment who could be on any candidate’s team of advisors, Democrat or Republican.
It is interesting to see Trump handing off foreign policy to the establishment experts.
It should not be seen outside of Trump’s conciliation with the RNC that has just occurred.
Amen; no more putting our men and treasure overseas for free and getting nothing in return.
No amount of money is worth one drop of blood of our servicemen. Let the world eat cake and handles their own messes.
my guess is that Trump is listening to more people than he admits. He shows as few cards as possible.
If I had my way I would withdraw our troops from bases around the world and bring them home. Let the rest of the world defend itself. Except Poland and our NATO allies.
