GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump believes education is one the most essential functions of the U.S. government. Its right up there with security and providing health care for the nation, he told a crowd in Wisconsin Tuesday night.
Yet Trump has called for the elimination of the Department of Education, meaning he would destroy the agency responsible for doing what he claims is so important for the country.
On Tuesday, Trump appeared at a CNN town hall in Milwaukee, a week before the states primary election.
An attendee asked what he views as the top three functions of the United States government.
The greatest function of all by far is security for our nation. I would also say health care, I would also say education, Trump replied. There are many many things. But I would say the top three are security, security, security.

I’ll gladly fight President Trump on the Dept. of Education after the invasion across our southern border is stopped. What happens at DeptEd will not amount to a hill of beans if the invasion isn’t stopped and reversed. Priorities, people. Priorities.
Carson is not from Texas
Another collection of BS.
Trump for President.
People who buy and sell government favors and politicians? Who look to the government do everything? Who consider it their own personal ATM?
Trump is a big government liberal....so that’s why the big government liberals cal him a fascist.

Nobody told the PuffHo imbeciles that American colleges and schools existed around 200 years before the Department of Education was formed.
Also, Americans spend more per student than any other nation on Earth, and we still lag many other industrialized nations.
Here’s PuffHo again, talking about the “myth” that the U.S. lags behind other countries. Notice the one thing missing from the article: hard statistical numbers. Got to ignore reality whenever it goes against your narrative:

That is kinda where I am ... more/less. I agree with Trump on many things, I disagree with him on many things. Trump is not a liberal, but he is not completely a conservative either. He is a big government guy, I am not comfortable with that at all. Trump holds many more conservative values than liberal values, that is for sure so when I criticize Trump for some liberal stances he has (like government healthcare and education being 2 of 3 top gov roles) I keep in mind that the single most important issue we face is to stop this invasion we are under. I disagree with Trump on stance me made in his book supporting a ban on "assault weapons", and as big of a 2A supporter I am, I know stopping the invasion is the most important issue we have. I do not agree with Trumps touchback amnesty idea... but at least he wants to stop the invasion before things like that are even discussed. So I am a Trump critic, no doubt. I did not vote for him in the Primary but I will vote for him if he wins the nomination. I have many problems with the guy... but I do agree with you on priorities, the invasion must be stopped first and foremost.
Trump has called for the elimination of the Department of Education,
One would also have to ask how this makes Trump a “Big Government Liberal”.
He understands that the Federal meddling is an impediment, not a benefit to education, which is and must always be understood as inherently local.
Now I will agree that Donald still shoots from the hip too much, but he is a natural Conservative:
And what did Trump Say?
He said that it was important for big government to get out of education.
Partial facts are used in such a way that they are converted to lies.
The way it fulfills the need for health care and education is by getting out of the way.
Is that too difficult to grasp?
I would have thought that that is the approach of most Conservative Americans.
The HuffPo ought to be jumping for Joy, er joy.
I wish he had said that the govt’s job is to allow its citizens life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Yes, we used to call it "bearing false witness"--a concept that includes all deliberate attempts at leading people away from what is actually true.
Again, Trump: Metaphor For American Conservatism.
Deliberately trying to confuse voters as to Donald's educational policy is deception, not statesmanship or honest journalism.
I trust Cruz or Grandpa Munster (Al Lewis) more than Trump!
So pretty much the entire corrupt DC system and the entrenched bureaucrats who run it, right?
Well consider the Trump campaign a first wave assault by WTP on that corrupt system...the head banging hole puncher that pries the whole damn thing open.
More conservative ideas and policies will follow him through the hole he punches through the corrupt system you despise.
if trump was just another big govt liberal the uniparty would have already declared him their next president.
So I am a Trump critic, no doubt. I did not vote for him in the Primary but I will vote for him if he wins the nomination. I have many problems with the guy... but I do agree with you on priorities, the invasion must be stopped first and foremost.
I agree.
I’ll vote for a populist/nationalist before a GLOBALIST any day of the week and twice on Sunday!
Good observation.
On the other hand, even though a plucked dulcimer definitely twangs, I think the timbre of a hammered dulcimer can approach dulcetivity -- that is, should the instrument not be hammered too strongly.
Note: Maybe "dulcetivity" is not a good noun? Perhaps "dulcetness" would be better?
