Sen. Ted Cruz refused to say Tuesday whether he would still back Donald Trump if the GOP presidential front-runner wins their party’s nomination, backing away from a firm pledge he made earlier in the campaign.
Mr. Cruz, whose coziness with Mr. Trump last year had pundits saying they were in the middle of a bromance, said that faded once the billionaire businessman began to turn nasty, and particularly in recent days when Mr. Trump has said he would go after Mr. Cruz’s wife.
“I’m not an easy person to tick off, but when you go after my wife, when you go after my daughters, that does it,” Mr. Cruz said at a town hall hosted by CNN in Wisconsin Tuesday night.
He accused Mr. Trump of being behind a thinly sourced story last week in the National Enquirer tabloid that reported Mr. Cruz had engaged in affairs with a handful of women. The story aggregated rumors, and the only named source was Roger Stone, an adviser to Mr. Trump, who said: “These stories have been swirling around Cruz for some time. I believe where there is smoke there is fire.”
Mr. Cruz also backed away from the pledge all of the candidates took last year to back the eventual nominee no matter who it is. Mr. Cruz ducked repeated direct challenges by CNN host Anderson Cooper to take a firm stand, saying instead that his goal now is to make sure he doesn’t face that choice.
“The answer to that is to beat him at the ballot box,” Mr. Cruz said.
Mr. Cooper, though, said Mr. Trump had made controversial statements about women and minorities last year, even as Mr. Cruz was praising him: “Sounds like you were engaged in a love fest,” Mr. Cooper said.

WRONG - Trump began to turn cruz the cold shoulder AFTER the hidden tape of cruz exposed cruz saying he was only befriending Trump to lay in his wake til the end, second pint is also wrong as it was cruz who first showed pics of Trumps beautiful wife as she was working as a 16 yo model years ago. Can’t cruz and his minion reporter get anything right except their all constantly wining about something all the time....i’m bruised, i’m hurt, de plane de plane.......
I’ve been saying I’ll support Cruz if he’s the nominee. But that’s getting harder.
The other side says the same thing. They need to work this out very soon or we get hillary. May be too late already.

Conjecture. However, Cruz did go after Trump and his supporters for the violence in Chicago.

Trump has brought in many blacks, blue collar workers, disaffected Dems, people who have rarely or NEVER bothered to vote before and IF you imagine that Cruz will get THOSE votes, should he somehow get the nomination ( which he absolutely shall NOT ! ), then you don't understand anything at all about 1) this political season 2) politic.
And psssssssssssssssssssssssssssssst....Texas old Cruz supporters are no longer supporting him and should he be primaried, he won'/t be re-elected to his Senate seat !

Trump has pissed off way more than he has tamed as far as I can see. This is based on my personal experience with people I know.
Win, lose or draw. This is about America. It ain’t about me and it aint’ about you. We have to win, and I don’t think you guys can do that without me and mine.

There is "together" now and NEVER can be and that has been true for months. Besides which, Cruz is GOPE and to say otherwise is an egregious error.
I agree, unfortunately. It is so sad to see Ted Cruz come undone. He has no proof that Donald Trump had anything to do with going after Heidi or ‘his daughters’. Where in the world were recent attacks made on his daughters? I must have missed it.
The evidence points to Rubio and yet Cruz pins every wrong thing on Trump. He seems obsessed in an unhealthy way.
I saw this kind of behavior become more bizarre as the days passed by. I am still in shock at Cruz’ reaction to last week’s terror attack in Brussels. I could not believe the video I was watching but it was the first time Cruz was confronted by the news media with news of the Brussels terror attack and I expected the Ted Cruz that I know to first pay respects to the dead and the families of the dead. Instead to my shock, he immediately launched into an attack on Donald Trump, mentioning Trump by name in wanting to decrease the US’s share of funding NATO.
Trump wants the Euros to pick up more of the tab for NATO. It is now funded 70% by the US up from 50% fifteen years ago. Cruz used the Trump proposal as an attack on Trump’s judgment in the face of the Brussels attacks.
Here is a man of more than above average analytical ability using the awful carnage of the Brussels terror attack as a backdrop to attack Trump on NATO policy. After witnessing this, that was the final straw for me.
