The National Enquirer story that alleges Ted Cruz had extramarital affairs with five women is a "festering boil" that could sink the Texas senator's presidential bid unless takes immediate legal action to discredit it, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay tells Newsmax TV. "I think if he would sue The Enquirer right now, it would put the story to bed," DeLay, a Texas Republican, said Monday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."
Cruz has angrily denied any truth to the Enquirer report and charges that Republican presidential front-runner is behind it an allegation Trump strongly denies.
"He needs to get a hold of some people that know how to handle this kind of thing because this is so typical of politicians. They just wish that the story would go away," DeLay said.

Good post on the NE.
You can be sure every article is vetted by attorneys who live in libel-land.
It is Ted’s bible pounding and family values claims that makes him so vulnerable on this issue—if he campaigned as a free love hedonist this would not be an issue.
I thnik it is too late now. Cruz has been so detestable that Trump voters will never vote for him. He could never win without them. His sex problems are minor compared to his behavior.
He will also lose all of the crossover votes. Lose in a landslide. Conservatives will be blamed.
He is going to get kicked to the curb very soon.
Say hello Hillary.
that gets me, too, how did THAT friendship start??
Constitutional scholar Cruz does not know this? And also - Trump did say he wants to strengthen libel laws against news organizations. So Cruz should support Trump and then sue.
I don’t know if the story is true or not, but even if it’s false, there probably is no case to make in court: Cruz would have to prove that (1) the Enquirer knew the story was false and that (2) Cruz himself does not have access to media to address the false claims made against him. IOW there is no case - the politicians calling for Cruz to sue surely know that.
“Lying Ted could file a lawsuit to make it go away now, but then he would have to drop the lawsuit later. Discovery would burn the burnt toasTED.”
I believe that the MSM is sitting on the DETAILS, until ‘Lying Teddy’ has served his purpose, then the media will use that to get rid of ‘Lying Teddy’. Just my personal opinion of this whole situation.
Make no mistake about it, the press has, since Trump announced on 16 June 2015, that he was running for President, have been digging, almost all the way to China trying to get some big time dirt on Donald J. Trump. As much as the press has been trying to get rid of Trump, if they had found anything it would have already been out there.
This would have never been a story outside the supermarket checkout if Ted would have kept his mouth shut instead of immediately blaming Trump for it.
It seems all of Teds campaign is now nothing but blaming Trump for everything
“If Cruz sues, he must then testify under oath!”
The real problem is discovery: travel records, etc. AND deposing MANY Cruz staffers.
Any kind of lawsuit like this would be a nightmare and a YUGE distraction from the campaign. It’d be a total circus for months, maybe years, win or lose.
Best post ever
It came to me later. I saw it when he sided with the chicago rioter/protesters. I knew then that I will never vote for him.
Not as a democrat. but if he’s the alternative to hillary then yes.
Why would Trump want to join with Ted? Cruz has already shown that he will LIE in order to move ahead.
I fully understand your point.
Couldn’t DeLay have chosen a better metaphor than
“putting it to bed”? Freudian slip much?
Yeah...I actually don’t like either of them. I have no one to talk to! LOL
Well Cruz has deflected and now tried to blame Trump but he has not denied. NE has more coming this week which will just cast further doubt on Ted. When a man cannot say “I have not cheated on my wife” its not a good sign.
