Supreme Court Fight: Quarter of Republican Senators Now Back Meetings for Merrick Garland
NBC News ^ | March 29, 2016 | Ari Melber

When President Obama first nominated Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court, Senate Republicans were united in their wall of opposition — no meetings, no hearing, no vote.

And while Garland's path remains a very uphill battle, some Republicans are starting to shift their tone.

Two weeks into the nomination fight, 16 Republican senators now say they will meet with Garland — over 25 percent of the GOP caucus — according to a running count by NBC News.

No doubt and I bet most of them are backing Ted Cruz so that there will be a brokered convention.

The GOP is once again in the process of allowing a leftist appointment.

The American political class no longer cares about the general welfare. The political class has become totally venal seeking only money, perks and re-election. Indeed, a useful term that is coming into use is "Uniparty." The term should replace the terms Democratic and Republican

The electorate has become degenerate, unable to physiologically and psychologically defend itself. Evidence of degeneration is established by what the electorate put in the White House in 2008 & 2012. It is a distinct possibility that God has abandoned America and left it to the dominate philosophy of eating, drinking, drugging, copulating, evacuating the bowels and snoring.

“How long will conservatives continue to follow and support the treacherous GOP?”

How long will so called “grass roots organizations” like the various Tea Party entities continue to put forward unvetted loony tunes for public office just because they “claim” to be “conservative?”

Yeah, right. "Meetings" with a judicial nominee don't mean much, if anything. The GOP Senators could "meet" with Merrick Garland merely for the purpose of saying to him: "Hey, Judge! We're going to let the next president make this nomination. No offense, pal. Nice suit, by the way."

If they said that 25% of GOP senators were on board with holding full-fledged confirmation hearings, then there might be some cause for concern.

revert to type

If someone reverts to type, they return to their usual behaviour after a period of behaving in a different, usually better, way.

“After several weeks without saying a rude word to anyone, he seems to have reverted to type.”

Apparently for a long time. There’s scores of “conservatives” on this site that think Cruz is conservative and not a member of the GOPe. So to answer your question, apparently a lot of conservatives are happy to have the GOPe continue to lead them to slaughter.

I did not think that the Senate Republicans would last this long with caving. I thought that the longest that they would have held out would have been thirty seconds.

I WISH the Republican Party was as disciplined as the Democrats! You don’t think the Dems would put up with any Dems who defected on any important issues, do you??

The judiciary committee has made it clear this won’t be taken up before the election. There are some ‘pub senators in moderate states that are saying they will “meet” with the candidate but its for show.

Any senator that gives aid an comfort to this cause must immediately and publicly have their political throats cut.

Any senator that would entertain meetings or hearings of any sort is not worthy to serve as a senator.

You are full o it with an SH. Cruz is a very strict constitutionalist. Trump is a lot more wishy washy than Cruz on SCOTUS—what the hell does Crus have to do with this any way?

They won’t cave. When they go to a brokered convention and offer up Romney or whoever, they’ll play the it’s only Romney standing between hillary picking the supreme court justice.
