Why Is Ted Cruz Getting a Total Pass For Attack on Donald Trump’s Wife?
Mediaite ^ | 03/25/16 | Tommy Christopher

I get that the media has gotten the memo that Donald Trump is the greatest threat to civilization since NBC’s “The Slap,” but the controversy surrounding the Trump v Ted Cruz wife-dissing battle has revealed a stunning bit of tunnel vision, particularly among liberals. While everyone piles on Trump for retweeting an unflattering photo comparison of Heidi Cruz and Melania Trump, they’re giving Cruz and his SuperPAC a complete pass for what amounts to a political sexual assault on Melania Trump. Both attacks were ugly; I would submit that the explicitly sexual nature of the attack on Mrs. Trump is worse, but for the sake of argument, let’s call them even.

Consider this introduction to the flap by Chris Hayes on Thursday night’s All In, in which he takes great pains to note that the PAC that attacked Melania Trump has “no direct connection” to Ted Cruz, then delights in Cruz’s (admittedly awesome) refusal to say he won’t support Trump if he’s the nominee:

God bless Hallie Jackson for asking that followup, but another great question would have been why didn’t Ted Cruz immediately denounce the anti-Melania ad and demand that it be taken down? As for Hayes, he and the rest of the media are giving Cruz a benefit of the doubt that he has not earned. Sure, he’s not supposed to coordinate with SuperPACs, but this is the same guy who swore his campaign had nothing to do with spreading the rumor that Ben Carson had dropped out in Iowa, only to have voicemails to the contrary surface almost immediately. At a bare minimum, Cruz bears responsibility for not immediately coming out against the ad.

-- It is an Anti-Trump PAC and does not endorse any candidates. --

The photo was captioned, "Meet Melania Trump, your next first lady. Or you could vote for Ted Cruz next Tuesday."

Of course, one can parse that as "not an endorsement," but there is no doubt the ad is not an "issues" ad, and there is no doubt that it suggested the voter choose a specific candidate.

Ted (anything for a caucus win) Cruz.

I guess you missed the Vote for Ted Cruz on the bottom of the ad.

But then again, that might reflect a certain modicum of morals and integrity.

You mean like cheating on your wife and kids, not once, not twice, but 5 times? People like you are why republicans got a reputation of being hypocrites in the first place.

If you quit looking at her boobs and read the text.

and his SuperPAC a complete pass for what amounts to a political sexual assault on Melania Trump.

Uh, the solution to that is to not take your clothes off and let strangers take pictures of you.

Melania Trump is European, and the values she grew up with are not American. Some people will object to that, but i'm thinking the more Cosmopolitan cities in the US will not.

In any case, Cruz didn't run that ad. Some sleazeball supporters did that. There seems to be a lot of sleazy supporters for both candidates this year.

The question is why did Cruz launch it? The enquirer didn’t come up with this story in 36 hours. Cruz knew it was about to hit the stands and hit out at Melania to muddy the water and make the enquirer look like a retaliation.

The difference between Trump and Cruz:

Trump takes responsibility for what he says.

Cruz blames all those donors surrounding him who he just cannot control.

Trump is honorable, Cruz is not.

Be honest. Post the Melania ad from the day before right above that Trump retweet. Then it makes perfect sense.

If I publish my semi naked pics on the cover of a national magazine and brag about what a trophy I am because of it, it is pretty hard to call it a sexual assault if you all repost my pic and ridicule me.

I gotta say, I don't see the Melania Trump pic as much of an "attack". I just googled images of Melania Trump and the GQ cover was included. Instead of so many whining about the "attack", they should have ignored it, or said something like "I'd rather see her in the White House than Lady Macbeth".

We don't know that Cruz was directly involved in the non-attack attack anyway. It was also foolish of Cruz to blame the Enquirer attack on Trump. This is getting pretty silly.

. I think Wise Ole Ted has reaped the whirlwind.

You might just want to take a short trip over to twitter and see what is trending and what they are saying. It's not good for cruz.

That said, both sides have now descended into the sewer. I am sick to death of all of it.

I've seen the supporters of both sides descend into the sewer, and I wish the people here on Free Republic would stop doing it.

Melania took her clothes off for money and inspired the inclinations of a generation of teenage boys but it is not like she was a stripper in one of Trump’s properties.

Trump makes his money when the clubs in his properties hire the wives and daughters of other men to do that.

Because Cruz didn’t do it. An anti-Trump PAC did it.

Very clever! On a serious note and answer to the question.....the nude photos of Melania are hardly conjecture or gossip, they are real. When one decides to “expose” themselves and then becomes a high profile person, it is the way it goes. I don’t know how anyone else feels, but I think the public has every right to know the morality of candidates as well as their wives.

How about if nude photos of Hillary Clinton were released?????? How would you feel then?????

Agreed. The media is now allowing Cruz to blame the enquirer story on Trump and yet Cruz bears no faul for his super PAC attacking Melania ?Cruz insists he knew nothing about it, so why is he so quick to blame Trump and not the Enquirer?

That was a totally sleazy thing to do, and yet I don't see anyone complaining about it. What do you think? Is mocking the beauty of someone's wife okay with you?

Trump was not mocking beauty, he was pointing out what a psychotic bitch looks like.

Cruz called Trump’s wife a slut.

Where? First I've heard of this.

Trump’s wife was paid for posing nude in a magazine. A political ad was run showing her posing nude in a magazine. What’s the problem. Didn’t the same thing happen to Brown when he was running for Senator?
