Interesting article. By my quick accounting there have been near 40 presidential elections of which 10 were ‘brokered’, of which 5 or 6 (article makes distinctions about electoral vs. popular) resulted in a win for the party.
While interesting, 5 or 6 wins out of 40 elections isn’t ‘often’ winning in my book. It hardly seems like a justification that a brokered convention is good.
NOTHING in recent history suggests or justifies any wisdom in a brokered convention.
1952 is NOT recent history.
The GOPe can't negotiate.
Maybe in the past they have produced some winners.
Well, if they do it this time, it will produce a winner too.... Someone with a (D) next to their name.
All a brokered convention will give us is Hillary Clinton.
A Brokered Convention is a wet dream for the anti-Trump wing of the Republican party.
That’s the wing that looks out over the voters and sees only idiots and shit-heads.
SEN. TED CRUZ (R-TX), PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE:
“There are many in Washington establishment who are right now having fevered dreams about a brokered convention, about a deadlocked convention where they parachute in an establishment candidate who suddenly saves all the fears of the lobbyists. “
“I think that would be an absolute disaster. I think the people would quite rightly revolt. The way to beat Donald Trump is at the ballot box. That’s what we’ve been doing, beating him all over the country and the way to beat him is get to 1,237 delegates.”
If they nominate someone who didn’t run, I’m staying home. Likewise, I’m staying home if they nominate someone who appears to be more Democrat than Republican (Kasich). I don’t think I’m alone in this.
My own take is that the GOPe is itching to nominate Ryan. So far, Mr. Ryan has not impressed me in the least.
meh
If this one produces the likely Yeb or Paul Ryan nominee it wont
