Remember How Trump Threatened Ford? Well Look at the HUGE Announcement They Just Made
Conservative Tribune ^ | 03/24/2006 | NA

When the Ford Motor Co. decided to move jobs south to Mexico so that it could pay its workers less, billionaire businessman Donald Trump was furious. He made trade inequalities and Ford’s betrayal of American workers a central issue of his campaign.

And, without his even being in the Oval Office, it worked.

In an interview with CNBC, Ford CEO Mark Fields said that the automaker would be “here to stay.” He also said he had outlined his company’s plans in a letter to Trump.

Instead of threatening Ford he ought to be talking about a plan to cut taxes and regulations.

They're offshoring for cheap labor and not to forgo regulations and taxes. They use those taxes and regulations as cover to garner the support from ignorant gullible people like you (Limaubciles) while they continue to sell out the American workforce.

Actually, from what I've heard most of the Ford Mexico production is small, cheap cars (Fiesta, anyone?) headed for the Central and South American markets. These cars have the lowest profit margins and it's also smart to build them closer to where you're going to sell them. The high-value, high-markup pickups and SUVs are staying here.

True. But what is being missed is that Ford's new plants in Mexico are being built, not if Trump has a say, to boost their production of lower priced cars in Mexico in order to concentrate on manufacturing high margin SUVs and pickups in the US. Higher margins are a way of coping with higher labor costs, in the real world. Sounds sensible to me. And to the extent that the Mexican production is not destined to the US, the tariff has no impact. To the extent it is destined here, smaller cars will rise in price significantly, which is a good thing for American consumers I guess. This problem was largely settled in the early Clinton years. At this point you work around the edges, or withdraw from NAFTA which requires Congress. And a policy for Canada.

Well, if that’s the case, Ford ought to be letting everyone know that’s what they are doing.

True. This was the story one of the CNBC correspondents was reporting yesterday and it seemed logical, but I haven't had the chance to follow up and research it.

They already build cars in Mexico. That probably won’t change. But if they move ANYTHING ELSE to Mexico, Ford and their POS vehicles can go to blazes. There’s no shortage of excellent vehicles besides Fords out there.

The company is free to do what it wants, unlike GM when 0 took it over.

The government, who has a proven track record in using our money for what it is intended, like they do with the Social Security lock box. Or are you still buying the wall hyperbole?

This article sounds exciting. But it’s wrong. Entirely.

Ford is expanding into Mexico:

Not entirely, but I saw that piece. Ford did acknowledge an estimated 8,500 jobs being created in the US.

That said, the conversation has been started because of Trump. If he had not entered the race, no one would have even have been talking trade imbalance and the ramifications on the working class.

So you think it’s good for the President to be making the decisions on how to run a company like Ford?

I think you would gripe if you were hung with a new rope.

So, nothing really changed except that they wrote Trump a letter.

The Art of the Deal. Ford might be saying that factory's already in the works but if you don't tax us out of business, we'll keep our other plants here.

Trump still stopped the bleeding and I doubt there will be no tariff on their products just not so high. IMHO

There seems to be a difference because the Wall Street Journal is reporting Ford is not only building a new factory but will be ramping up auto production in Mexico

Are you joking? Ford is still moving the jobs to Mexico...nothing has changed. Ford has already made the moves it wanted to, so the letter is a no brainer.

So, the tariff will be paid by the consumer, passed along by Ford as higher prices. And you admit it won’t go to pay for a wall.

Who is Trump’s plan punishing? The Ford truck buyer. You and I.

No. Not likely. They are not going to spend $1 billion + and then bring the jobs back. The letter is a joke. Ford has already made the decisions as to the jobs they are going to move and they are not changing their mind.

I could send a letter to Trump saying, I am here in the US to stay and it would be as meaningful.

My gosh. You are delusional. You are probably the same person that posted all those Obama polls are fake in 2008 and 2012. I can understand you wanting something to be true, but wake up to reality.

I believe the polls. They were correct in 2008 and 2012. The primary polls have been pretty good, too. So, yes, Clinton is in front right now, by a lot.

But once Trump gets a loan to finance the general election campaign (according to his financial papers he released last summer, he has $300 million in liquid assets which is not enough for a general election campaign), and if he threatens a few less people and behaves himself, he just may beat her.

But at the moment, he is way behind. NO ONE at my place of work is voting for him and I am in Virginia, which is a state he needs. He will need some of these voters.

Cass Sunstein was President Obama’s regulatory czar when he came up with the 54.5 MPG for cars. Steven Rattner was the car czar that closed all those dealerships. With Obama’s appointees, they all seem to have a hand into everything with zero responsibility.
