So why are Trumps negatives so high, if he is giving a voice to the masses?
Look, Trump has been campaigning in a Republican primary with harsh language and has been routinely attacked by the elite media as much as they can. Reagan went through the same cycle. Do you know how many points Reagan was behind Carter in March?
It was double digits, right?
Twenty-five. Not just double digits. Twenty-five points. So if you had talked to me in March of 1980, you would have said, How can I support this crazy right-winger who makes movies with chimpanzees and is 25 points behind Carter? And I would have said, Because I think he can win. Which, by the way, he did.
Is there really nothing that worries you about this guy? The way he deals with reporters, his campaign manager, etc.? You are not at all worried he has authoritarian tendencies?
No. No. [Laughs.] Which part of that is supposed to bother me?
That his campaign manager may have assaulted a reporter?
Oh cmon. Did you ever look at it?
I have looked at it, many times.
Thats an assault?
He grabbed her arm very hard.

I get as upset with Newt as the next guy, but some of you are too tough on him. In my opinion, after Reagan of course, there is not another conservative (yes, he was) who did as much as Newt did. Actual accomplishments. Sure, it was not all pretty and he helped to bring himself down, but as we look back on his political life we would be lucky to find a speaker half as good as him (back in his prime) in our lifetime. For a few short years the guy was an absolute wizard on the hill.””
Ditto and 50 thumbs up. There are simply too many sinless freepers.
With that said, I am still disappointed in him, but I will never hate the guy. I wish we had many more of him in congress. Go figure.
Irrespective of whether you are a Trump, Cruz, or other supporter, this is a great exchange by Gingrich and the entire conversation illustrates just how arrogant (and misguided) the left is about their delusional belief of superior education and intelligence. It is an extremely dangerous form of elitism, and they are too blinded by their own sense of superiority and importance to even realize that they have become the worst kind of elitists - and ironically actually are more Bourgeoisie than those Marx derided.

That long ago budget committee Kasich was a man to be admired. Now, not so much but he was then.
Newt successfully auditioning for President Trump’s Chief of Staff...
Well said. I used to have a 90/10 Newr rule. No doubt when he was on he was brilliant, but when he was bad, he was really, really bad.
Actually, if you’ll check the archives, I think you’ll find that Gingrich was a big favorite on Free Republic at the point of his surge during the campaign against Romney.
I think I recall that he was acceptable to almost everyone on the forum, and his record is very strong in lots of areas. He also has weaknesses, but who doesn’t?
So should you!
You're akin to an ILLEGAL DISEASE.
NEWT BALANCED THE FEDERAL BUDGET!!!!!!!!!!!!
IS EVERYONE HERE FORGETTING THAT???
So he sat with Pelousy for a public service commercial, which I wish he would not have done, in fact I wish he would have beaten her with a baseball bat,.. but I digress...
HE BALANCED THE FEDERAL BUDGET!!!
HELLOO????????????????????????????????
TRUMP/GINGRICH
I must say, I read that interview with alacrity and was amazed at the rapid-fire and spot-on responses that Gingrich gave to that idiot liberal jerk he was sparring with. Gingrich acquitted himself very well, indeed, as he defended Trump, Trump’s positions, and Trump’s voters. I used to think that a Trump/Cruz ticket would be unbeatable. But, now, after watching the real Cruz reveal his true ugly self to the world, there is no way Trump should tie himself to such an ass. As the search for a running mate for Trump goes on, I think your suggestion that he should consider Gingrich is actually a very good idea!
“Id like him for chief of staff or some other role, because the libs would just drag out all the same-old-same-old.”
I agree. Same with Palin.
“I hope Trump picks a black person, to be honest. A black, lesbian woman. To shut up all the cucks once and for all.”
Just like electing Obama helped race relationships? Identity politics never work.
I would wholeheartedly support that ticket but I seriously doubt Newt, at this stage in his life, would be willing to run.
It's $700,000 isn't it? Heidi's one of the key CFR members behind the push for the North American Union. If you're willing to give up your sovereignty and erase our southern and northern borders and put NAFTA on steroids then Cruz should be your guy.
Let me encourage other members of the establishment: Keep supporting Donald Trump because every time you do it, what it is doing is telling conservatives all over the country is where you stand and who stands with you.

Only one person is the main establishment now

I welcome Mitt Romney and Bush
How is that voting for the non establishment guy who never lies working for you now.
The man is a fraud/ Many of us saw it and stopped supporting him , you just have not woken up or are too suborn to see facts.
Just said the same to him
WAS one of Newt's boys and Kasich was very good during the Contract With America days. It's not Newt's fault that he got all mushy and his heart started bleeding.
We should rebuild the grassroots conservative movement. From the Reagan Revolution of 1980 through the Contract with America in 1994, it was this movement from outside Washington that carried us to the first center-right majority governing coalition in more than 60 years. The problem has not been with conservatism or with our voters.
The problem has been with Republican leaders who forgot who elected them and what values their supporters expected to see implemented in Washington.
