Ted Cruz on Monday mocked Donald Trump's grasp of history and promised not to be neutral in a negotiation between Israel and Palestinians, something Trump has said he would do if elected president.
At his speech before the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, Cruz started by highlighting a mistake Trump made during his own speech just minutes earlier.
"Perhaps to the surprise of the previous speaker, Palestine has not existed since 1948," Cruz said, drawing mixed laughter and applause from the crowd.

You would be wrong.
You need to read something other than Cruz campaign literature.
I’m guessing you are a volunteer in PA, right? Law school, perhaps? Looking for opportunity in DC when this is done?
Save your money, kid. Your arguments are weak.
I really question if Cruz is capable of giving a speech or an interview without attacking Trump. He’s seemed positively obsessed with him for several weeks now.
I listened to Trump’s speech. He touched on quite a few issues that affect the region and Israel in particular. It sounded presidential and comprehensive.
He dissed the U. N., Iran, and terrorist groups that pay children to stab innocents.
He supported Jerusalem as the capital and Israel basically for all time.
If he slipped up and used a phrase that may offend, he more than made up for it with the rest of his presentation.
It was perhaps the best comments I’ve heard on the topic of Israel and the Middle-East in a long time.
Would it not figure that large numbers of New Yorkers have Israeli financial connections— no surprise at their “positives” on Trump who has developed properties in both places and elsewhere in the ME, with Israeli/Jewish financial backing. This would be asking the general Israeli population. Asking the security knowledgeable people— might get a different answer, as the liberal Israelis are the appeasers. But they all know either Cruz or Trump would be far better than obamaumao or any other anti-Israeli demonrat.
They are both smart.
Trump communicates better. Cruz doesn’t have the chops that trump has.
He isn’t. Trump is the smartest candidate this country has had.
Well if Trump is the nominee, we will see who is obtuse now won’t we. The only sad part for me is, if I am right the country is toast. Even if I am wrong I am not 100% sure we still wouldn’t be toast. Trump is no conservative, he is a Populist, and possible one with a nationalist leaning. I hope I am wrong if he is the nominee. My absolute biggest fear is that Trump wins the nomination, and like Reagan in 1976 we realize after it is to late that the party nominated the wrong candidate.
He’s been told by his father since he was a kid that he was special.
Garnering the hatred of senate republicans is hardly an achievement much less a reality that would help any president actually get things done
It might make him a hero senator to the lone star state but the Lone Ranger is going to need to get the Senate to work with him if he ever ends up in the WH
Which he won’t anyway
Feel free to bookmark this for november
By your logic , Cruz should have swept the South ...Cruz got blown out in the South , which should have been his strongest natural turf ...Cruz is definitely not general election material ...
Well, actually the Roman empire about one hundred years after Christ expelled the Jews and renamed the area Palestine to remove the ancient claim of the Jews upon their homeland. There actually was no Palestinian nation.
If Cruz is so damn smart why isnt he winning?
That’s an easy one. Cruz told us himself the answer. The voters are stupid.
Cruz has really become condescending and arrogant.
The complete arrogance has worked so well for Trump to attract followers, he is trying to mimic his success. Ya gotta admit Trump is arrogant. And it doesn’t work against him with his supporters.>>> well trump wasn’t arrogant at the event doesn’t work well at that kind of event. and the d did a teleprompter. and good for him it was a fine speech. it seemed like he won the crowd. i’ll look for the cruz speech and make my mind up.
Take a minute and read AIPAC’s mission statement. Palestine, as a concept and a source of contention is rather important, especially who is backing the concept of 2-states in Israel. It’s not a “wonk” topic when speaking to this group. Just saying.
Did Trump call someone a butt-muncher ? Or was it a supporter here copying his rhetoric style ?
It's gonna be a long election cycle.
And he did a damn fine job of delivering it. Considering it was his first go at the teleprompter.
Teds may have been heavier in DC speak, but it sounded like he was reading a court brief.
And that smirk! GAH!!!
This country has been run into the ground by over educated “smart “ people. No thanks.
If they are disillusioned the can go through the process of changing parties to the republican, last time I checked there was no money involved in doing this, and no law against it either.
[What do you think he is talking about?]
That night TRUMP came off as a ‘mediator’, which was troublesome to me. America has had enough ‘mediators’ in past administrations. It was hopeful to hear him give strong positional statements concerning Israel this everything.
That being said, Free Republic used to be a source of honest and respectful discourse, with some light-humored jesting in good fun. Now it is ugly. (Not talking about you)
