Donald Trump outlined an unabashedly noninterventionist approach to world affairs Monday, telling The Washington Post's editorial board that he questions the need for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which has formed the backbone of Western security policies since the Cold War.
The meeting at The Post covered a range of issues, including media libel laws, violence at his rallies, climate change, NATO and the U.S. presence in Asia.
Speaking ahead of a major address on foreign policy later Monday in front of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, Trump said he advocates a light footprint in the world. In spite of unrest abroad, especially in the Middle East, Trump said the United States must look inward and steer its resources toward rebuilding domestic infrastructure.
"I do think its a different world today, and I dont think we should be nation-building anymore," Trump said. "I think its proven not to work, and we have a different country than we did then. We have $19 trillion in debt. Were sitting, probably, on a bubble. And its a bubble that if it breaks, its going to be very nasty. I just think we have to rebuild our country."
He added: "I watched as we built schools in Iraq and theyre blown up. We build another one, we get blown up. We rebuild it three times and yet we cant build a school in Brooklyn. We have no money for education because we cant build in our own country. At what point do you say, 'Hey, we have to take care of ourselves?' So, I know the outer world exists and Ill be very cognizant of that. But at the same time, our country is disintegrating, large sections of it, especially the inner cities."

Non-interventionism!
It was amazing to watch.
Let Japan reimburse us for their defense. Along with NATO. What’s wrong with that . enough giveaways.
Compare this to the McCain/Rubio crowd who never met a war they didn’t want us involved in.
Korea too.
We need NATO but the pathetic Europeans need to actually pay a fair share for their own defense instead of spending it all on refugees and transexual operations.
Why are we wasting money on NATO ? Explain — ANYBODY!! I DON’T WANT TO NATION BUILD EXCEPT MY COUNTRY!! GO TRUMP!!!! ( listen to my tagline song !!and if you are GOPE weep!).THIS IS OVER!!
Hey, Vlad, have a party.
sarah palin on blacklist!

Bravo, Trump!
Can we pull out of the UN? It’s a hateful, pointless organization.
So Trump wants us out of NATO, he wants us to pull out of Korea and Japan unless they start paying us God knows how much money, he says Israel should pay us for defending them. Yet at the same time Trump wants to send 20,000 to 25,000 troops, probably more, into Syria to defeat ISIS and build a safe zone for Syrian refugees to return to. In fact Trump’s foreign policy is not noninterventionist or opposed to nation building. One might say that it’s schizophrenic, but the fact is that he has no policy to begin with.
It’s been precisely the US security blanket that has allowed European nations to convert otherwise defense dollars into a cozy and generous safety net that makes our extremists drool with envy. Our stupid extremists forget that there is no big brother out there to save us if we do as they want and divert our defense dollars into bigger giveaways. A reimbursement charge makes the most sense.
It’s a throwback to Washington (George). No foreign entanglements. After our nation building experiences this century and the end of the last, it’s put the credit card away and work on our own solvency.
NATO became a joke when Turkey joined.
Trump continues to hit on all cylinders.
NATO is just another parasitical global organization.
He has already, obviously, taken aim at NAFTA, WTO etc.
Oh . . . and he just indicted the U.N. in his AIPAC speech . . . stopping just short of calling for the U.S. to resign and expel them from America.
